RTW July 4

Seasons Of Spiritual Dryness

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
Psalm 42:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

Resuming the flow maybe as simple changing the normal.

  • Change your quiet time place.
  • Read a different version of the Bible.
  • Turn the TV off.
  • Listen to more worship music and teaching podcasts.

Perhaps it will require a little personal reflection.

  • Am I experiencing spiritual dryness headed for drought?
  • Do I frequent the wrong watering holes?
  • What do I long for more than Christ?
  • Do I have any unconfessed sin in my life?

Something New

Psalm 43:5 repeats Psalm 42:5.

Something to Do

Drink only from the fountain of life.

  1. Declare me innocent, O God! Defend me against these ungodly people. Rescue me from unjust liars. For you are my God, my only safe haven. Psalm 43: 1,2

My own family is shunning me because of my belief in Jesus and the Word of God.

I am so encouraged today to remember that God is fighting the war for me and on behalf of me.

I am trusting Him today to bring restoration because I know that is His heart and I want to keep my heart from bitterness and love them with His love!!!!

  2. When I am thirsty for more of the Lord this psalm gives wonderful suggestions for me. 1- Sing for joy. 2-Give thanks. 3-Put hope in God. 4-Praise Him. 5-Remember Him. 6-Through the night sing His songs. 7- Pray to God. This is basic stuff but so many times I get caught up in not taking time to go back to the basics! I am asking God to help me return to the basics.

  3. Happy 4th of July everyone! Thanks Wendy for such a great lesson today! I really enjoyed it. I love the song As the Deer it is one of my favorites. My something to do is to long and desire for Christ more than my heart’s desires of being a wife and mom. To not be so thirsty for other things other than Christ.

    1. I love what Wendy says that only Jesus can satisfy us and nothing of this world can satisfy us. Like the woman at the well, she was seeking for things that could never satisfy her. I want to long for Jesus more than anything of this world, more than any of my heart’s desires and dreams.

  4. Fill my Cup, Lord is a great song that goes well with today’s lesson. Here is the lyrics:Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”
    Fill my cup, Lord;
    I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.

There are millions in this world who are seeking
    For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.

So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray—
