What Really Works For A Woman

Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised.
Proverbs 31:30

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Charm: an appearance of a woman
Deceptive: form deception, what deceives, disappoints, and betrays one
  • Beauty: the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind
    Vain: fading, unsubstantial, worthless, vanity

If you read the headlines of social media and print media, the prescription is the exact opposite of the what the world tells.

Fear of the Lord

  • Reverence of God
  • Understanding who God is and that He is holy, just, and righteous.
  • Respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe.

“It is her fear of Yahweh that enables her to see that real greatness will come to her, not through self-centered aggressiveness, and not through merely external beauty, but through godly devotion and the wholehearted commitment to God’s creational intention for her.” (Philips)

Something New

Proverbs 31 is called an alphabet of wifely excellence, because every verse starts with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

Something to Do

Fear the Lord… it works for me.

  1. We need to maintain our outer temple by keeping clean and having a neat appearance. I think that is all that’s necessary. And that is easily attainable by everyone.

p.s. i love the cicadas singing in the background, and look forward to hearing them every summer.
