What We Can Be Sure Of?

You can be sure of this:
Psalm 4:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

Reading the last words of a man is overwhelming.

Something New

You can be sure of this:

The LORD set apart the godly for Himself.

Yahweh

Pa-la (paw-law) –

to be distinct, marked out, be separated, be distinguished; to be distinct, be separated, be distinguished; to be wonderful

  • Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 1 John 2:15
  • I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (ESV) Psalm 139:14

The LORD will answer when I call to Him.

If He is not responding, take a spiritual inventory.

  • Am I in disobedience in an area of my life?
  • Am I struggling with unbelief?
  • Am I spending time in prayer and Bible study?
  • Is there unconfessed sin in my life?

Something to Do

Live here, but don’t love it. The best is yet to come.

  1. “He died at a ripe old age, having enjoyed long life” (1 Chron 29:28). I want this to be said about me when I die. I want to live to a ripe old age, for the Kingdom!

What stood out to me in today’s readings was all the times the Psalms talk about God hearing us and answering our prayers. Psalm 4:3, 5:1, 2 3, 6:9 and then Wendy’s lesson was so good and helped me greatly … it often feels like the Lord does NOT hear me or is NOT answering me… the spiritual inventory is helpful. And, confession time … Wendy’s words about spending time in prayer and bible study “not JUST prayer or JUST bible study” were like an arrow piercing my heart. I am weak in my prayer life – like REALLY weak! I have such difficulty talking to God. I am trying to be better at this but could use your prayers. I have seen first-hand the power of prayer in those around me and in my own life!

Reading Psalm 11 – especially vv 3, 4 made me think about the mess our country and this world is in – and is a good reminder that the Lord is in his holy Temple and he still rules from heaven, even if it looks like the foundations of law & order have collapsed.

To Do: Develop a stronger prayer practice – especially praying for this country and the world.

    1. Mary, I have prayed for you this morning as you requested about your prayer life. Keep working at it! Remember progress not perfection. God will meet you where you are and guide you and grow you as you seek Him. He is good and He loves you!

    2. Mary, remember in all things (Bible study and prayer), you are seeking Him, and seeking is very important, so don’t lose hope! Keep doing it!

  2. Good morning friends! I wanted to share a song with you all that the worship band played at my church yesterday. The lyrics are so powerful!

Mary, “my weapon is a melody” that is a great confirmation from the Lord to sing!!

Sing your heart out to the Lord my friends!!

I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah, louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah, heaven comes to fight for me
I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes, hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive!
I raise a hallelujah, with everything inside of me
I raise a hallelujah, I will watch the darkness flee
I raise a hallelujah, in the middle of the mystery
I raise a hallelujah, fear you lost your hold on me!
I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes, hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive!
Sing a little louder (In the presence of my enemies)
Sing a little louder (Louder than the unbelief)
Sing a little louder (My weapon is a melody)
Sing a little louder (Heaven comes to fight for me)
Sing a little louder (In the presence of my enemies)
Sing a little louder (Louder than the unbelief)
Sing a little louder (My weapon is a melody)
Sing a little louder (Heaven comes to fight for me)
    Sing a little louder!
I’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes, hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive!

  3. My takeaway s from today’s reading:
    —Trust and obey.
—Thank God that He hears and answers my prayers.
—Thank God for His peace, His protection, and His guidance.
—Thank God that He is in control.

The Psalms from today’s reading give such assurance and comfort when things in my life and/or our world seem to be crazy and out of control.

    1. I got much of the same!!
God is good and God is good at being God!!!?

  4. What a wonderful lesson today! (No pun intended on the wonderful). I like the reminder that we were always meant to be set apart and have a relationship with God.
    My Something Old:
Psalm 4:4 (in the NIV) says “Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.”
I always took this as to not be quick to argue and be reactive, to think on a wise way to respond if I am angry, but today I also thought about how lately if I get upset with someone (their behavior or something they said), I try to be quiet with it and think if the reason I am angry and upset is because they touched a nerve on something that really is my issue, and not really about them at all (or as much as I initially thought).

    My Something New:
Palm 9:18 NIV says: “But God will never forget the needy; the HOPE of the afflicted will NEVER perish.”
    (Caps mine.)
For some reason this stuck out to me that maybe it’s impossible for us to actually lose our hope, we just don’t look at it or see it and feel it sometimes, but IT IS there, so maybe I should start looking harder, outside the box sometimes if need be, because it is there. Maybe this also has to do with how I think a resolution or answered prayer should look like, and I need to be more open minded to what God actually is doing. In the Army, I learned in my husband’s resiliency training of a phrase they use called “hunt the good stuff.”

    Something To Do:
Hunt for hope in all situations, because He can turn all into good (if we let Him).

  5. Thank God that we can be sure of a lot more than just ‘death and taxes’. Namely, all of the many promises of God!
