What Doesn’t God Do In The How Long?

Oh LORD, how long will you forget me?
Psalm 13:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. Psalm 16:4

Am I chasing other gods?

Something New

Sometimes it seems that God has forgotten us, that He has looked away, and the enemy has the upper hand.

In the how long

God doesn’t forget us.

  • Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. (ESV) Isaiah 49:15

God doesn’t look away from us?

  • So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (NIV) Isaiah 41:10
  • For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (NIV) Isaiah 41:13

God doesn’t give the enemy victory over us?

  • But you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. (NIV)  Psalm 44:7

Something to Do

In the how long, grab His hand, look in His face, and hold on. He will return the sparkle to my eye, even while I’m in the how long.

  1. Good Morning everyone :). My takeaway for today was Psalm 19:14- “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” This is a familiar verse to me but I felt God showing me how my heart is always meditating on something and I need to direct my heart to those things that are pleasing to Him. Also, I am coming out of a season where I was really pulled away from God through the “meditation” that is so strongly encouraged in our world/culture today. What does God want me to meditate on? His Word, His promises, Jesus, Philippians 4:8, etc… so it was a reminder to me to keep my heart set on what is pleasing to the Lord and when I do this it will keep my mouth in the right place too! (Luke 6:45)

    1. These same words stood out to me today. Such a good reminder to take our words and our thoughts captive to keep them on the right track.

  2. So much good stuff in the Psalms in today’s reading. I noted in my journal all the truths about God’s Word from Psalm 19. Very encouraging and such a confirmation of how important it is to be in His Word each day.

  3. Good morning,

    I had two takeaways:

    1) The contrast between (deep) inner joy and outward (superficial) happiness. We saw this yesterday in Psalm 4:7and again today in Psalm 16:9. It reminds me of something a good friend shared with me that I will never forget: God does not command us to “be happy”. He commands us to “be holy.” When we strive to be holy—set apart for God—then, we will be more than happy, we will experience joy, the joy of the LORD!

    2) Psalm 19:3-4. Our pastor is leading our church through a Bible study on the Great Commission. First, these verses spoke to me as David’s foreshadowing of the Great Commission.

Secondly, the commentary also talks about how this verse speaks to the existence of God. I have several close friends whose hearts are broken over their children being raised up in the church, yet proclaiming in their 20’s a shift to non-belief. This gives me great food for thought and something I will ponder for a deeper dive into what is really going on with the disbelief proclamation. I suspect it is a rebellion not so much against God as to their parents in retaliation for a deep underlying hurt. Thoughts?
