Instructions For Worship

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
1 Timothy 2:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men. (NKJV)

  • Supplication is simply asking for something. Prayer should never be all asking, but it should ask in bold confidence from God’s Word.
  • Prayers is a broad word, referring to all communication with the Lord.
  • Intercessions refer to the requests we make on behalf of others. As we pray, there should be time when the needs of others find a place in our prayer before God’s throne.
  • Giving of thanks is an essential part of our walk with God. Those who lack a basic sense of gratitude in their lives lack a basic Christian virtue.

~ David Guzik

Something New

Worship starts with prayer.

Pray for all people. There isn’t anyone who doesn’t need prayer.

This is good and pleases God, because He wants all to be saved.

Something to Do

Worship.

  1. My something new today was in 1 Tim 1:12-14. God saves Paul despite that he had blasphemed and persecuted Gids people. How? By God’s grreat mercy and generous grace. God can save and use anyone. Don’t discount anyone for salvation.

I loved 1 Tim 2:5-6 there is 1 God and 1 mediator who can reconcile God and humanity — Jesus! He gave his life to purchase freedom for all! Praise the name of Jesus today for His comin and His sacrifice!

  2. My Takeaways Draw me Near

Something Old: I finished the book of James and opened a letter to Timothy today. But I am sadden that I’m not spending more time in James. This is one of my favorite books. I feel like this book has so much godly wisdom, with such a wide range of topics from the cause of quarreling and passing judgment on others to wealth and self confidence to suffering and prayer. So, I think I’ll just camp out in the second half of James today and reflect on the one verse that really caught my eye.

Something New: “You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can’t be a friend of God.”  (4:4) This is some heavy duty language. James sets the love that I have for God and the love that I have for this world in opposition to each other; and, he reminds me that I cannot love both. The “world,” which is under Satan’s influence is not who I want to fall in love with. Every day I am caught between these two loves, God or this world. I have to be very intentional to grow in my love for God or I will fall more in love with myself and Satan’s influence. Since these two loves are in opposition to each other, I am blessed to be a Christian, because the Holy Spirit dwells in me causing me to desire the things of God. In time, the temptations of this world will slowly lose their effectiveness. No doubt this world has everything I think I want, but knowing Jesus Christ allows me to realize it has nothing I need. I can’t cling to a system that will one day fail and fall, when I have a true, everlasting treasure in Jesus Christ. James in all his wisdom helped me to understand that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer.

Something To Do: Lead others to fall in love with Jesus so that they to can draw near to God each and every day. Pray in thanksgiving that He draws near to me!

    1. Loved your sentence, “I can’t cling to a system that will one day fail and fall when I have a true everlasting treasure in Jesus Christ.”
      I appreciate your insights.

  3. Dear Wendy,
I love today’s teaching. I love knowing that prayer is worship.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I am blessed to know you.

  4. I found today’s lesson so helpful and interesting.

1Timothy 2:2 really hit home in today’s divided political climate. “Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” At church we always pray for our leaders – local, national, and worldwide. However, I don’t always think to pray that broadly in my daily talks with God. We all need to remember, no matter our politics or viewpoints, to pray for our leaders, as Paul instructed. I certainly want a peaceful quiet life marked by godliness and dignity. Perhaps if we all pray together for our leaders, we would see more peace and willingness to work together. After all, we are all God’s people.
