The Great Exchange

“I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago,…”
Jeremiah 2:2b

My Takeaways

Something Old

I love that God uses people who are afraid.

Something New

  • Exchange our worthless idols for our glorious God
  • Exchange the isolation associated with the denial of sin for the freedom that accompanies forgiveness.
  • Exchange the calamity of rejecting the counsel of God’s Word for the thrill of experiencing its power.
  • Exchange the uncertainty of our free will for the security that comes through obedience.

Something to Do

Make the exchange.

  1. My Takeaways: Nothing is too Hard for My God

Something Old: “‘0 Sovereign Lord,’ I said, ‘I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!’ The Lord replied, “Don’t say I’m too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I the Lord have spoken!” Jeremiah 1:6-8
Much like Moses, who used his speech impediment as an excuse not to be able to serve the Lord, Jeremiah used his age as a barrier; but, with the Lord, there are no barriers. Using excuses is just another way of saying no to God. I may voice commitment or devotion, but do I really want to be used by Him? What’s my excuse-scared, lack of confidence in God’s abilities, not trusting Him, etc. I must remember, with God there are no barriers! The barriers that exist are only of my own making. As the sovereign God, He is able to do that which I cannot imagine. He is able to overcome all obstacles to accomplish His purposes, so I must take my guard down and trust that He knows best. No excuses! No barriers! Just faith.

Something New: Manasseh, what an evil sick man. I am not surprised by God’s punishment. Defeat and exile at the hands of the Syrians. This man was awful. He worshipped Idols, sacrificed his own son, willfully lead his people into sin, and even dealt in occult practices. I don’t think the Bible mentions this unless Hebrews 11:37 is referring to this when it says “… some were sawed in in half…” but as I studied more about this today I read that during Manasseh’s massive slaughter, Isaiah was sawed in two when trying to hide in a hollow log. From all these accounts one must conclude that this man was corrupted! But even through all of his evil actions and deeds God forgave him. Though God showed him justice, God listened when Manasseh finally realized his sins and cried out to God for forgiveness. God showed mercy for Manasseh’s changed heart and he was given a new start. If God can forgive a man like Manasseh He can forgive anyone. Nothing I can do is ever bad enough that God won’t lay down his mercy for me. He loves me too much and wants my new and changed heart. Forgiveness is limited, not by the amount of sin, but by my willingness to repent. How comforting to know that until death, no one is beyond the reach of God’s forgiveness! “But while in deep distress Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. And when he prayed, the Lord listen to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realize that the Lord alone is God!”
    2 Chronicles 33: 12-13

Something To Do: Humbly repent of my sins before God. Have faith and trust Him!
