What Causes Separation?

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?
Romans 8:35a

 

 

My Takeaways

Something Old

Christ is at the right hand of God, right now, pleading on my behalf. (Romans 8:34)

Something New

Nothing can separate me from God’s love unless I let it.

If God won’t allow anything to separate me from His love then why should I?

We feel separated from God’s love because we have allowed it.

We allow

  • Trouble and calamity
  • Persecution and hunger and destitution
  • Danger
  • Death and threats of death
  • Death or life
  • Angels or demons
  • Fears of today
  • Worries of tomorrow
  • Powers of hell
  • Sky above or earth below

How do we keep the separation from happening? Trust.

  • Trust in His plan.
  • Trust in His past faithfulness.
  • Trust in His personality.

Something to Do

Trust in the One who loves me so much that He doesn’t want to be separated from me.

What a surprisingly convicting teaching for me today … Listening to Wendy talk about being convinced of God’s love for me – trusting Him – I realize that I’m not convinced and I don’t trust Him because, like a spoiled bratty child, I’ve not been given what I want (husband & family) and I assume and accuse Him of not loving me. But He is SOVEREIGN and He knows what I need – but I guess I think of Sovereign God and Heavenly Father as two separate beings…. YIKES. They are One.

    And God causes EVERYTHING to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose …. The “good” here, isn’t that I will get everything I want, or that everything will work out … the “good” is that I will be conformed more and more into His image. So, if being single will glorify Him, I want to be able to accept that and know that it is because of His LOVE for me that I am single.

    New: Fears of today and worries of tomorrow are grouped in with powers of hell, death/threats of death, persecution, etc. Living in fear & worry are not insignificant and harmless. They cause separation from God. They mean I don’t trust Him. “Be anxious for nothing”
