The Benefits of Love

“Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”
John 14:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

Those who obey receive

  • Revelation
  • Jesus’ love
  • God’s love

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.” (John 14:23)

“Where love and obedience are shown, the presence of God and of Christ is realized; the Father and the Son together make their home with each of the children.” (Bruce)

Something New

Jesus addressed Peter, “Simon, Simon” (Luke 22:31), rather than Peter.

Something to Do

Live by the equation… live the life I’ve always wanted.

  1. “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit…” John 15:16

I didn’t choose God – was I searching for Him? Yes, in all the wrong places. But no one comes to the Father without Him drawing us…. and I am to produce lasting fruit.

“When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples” (John 15:18) Yikes! I don’t feel very fruitful, to be honest. But here’s my hope: If I remain in Christ, He will remain in me and HE will prune me so fruit can grow abundantly! HOW do I remain in Him? Stay in His Word, obey His Word, pray His Word – live His Word.

I love the reminder of what loving Jesus looks like – and this is how we produce fruit – Do what Jesus prefers.

John 14:27 – Jesus gives true peace because He is the Prince of Peace.

  2. That whole verse was new to me: “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31-32
…but I have pleaded in prayer for you ,(Jennifer), that your faith should not fail…
