That Day
On that day a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse the from all their sins and impurity.
Zechariah 13:1
My Takeaways
Something Old
The LORD returns! Zechariah 14
Something New
Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) John 7:38-39
A true cleansing of the blood of Jesus
- Allows the fountain to wash away that which lures us into sin. Lusts. Attitudes. Pride. Prejudices. Hatred. Ambition. Recognition.
- Invites the Word of God to replace our wrong thinking with right thinking.
- Permits the Holy Spirit to “boss” us; to prevent us from repeating patterns of sin.
- Trades the guilt of sin for robes of righteousness.
- Generates a desire to please the Source of cleansing, through our obedience.
- Cultivates a heart of praise for our cleansing and the One who cleanses.
Something to Do
Praise the Giver of my fountain of living water.
This verse is the basis for William Cowper’s beloved hymn There Is A Fountain Filled with Blood
