Lift My Eyes

I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven.
Psalm 123:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

I’m tired of living among people who hate peace. I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war!  Psalm 120:6-7

It seems this is could be written about our modern-day times. Hate is promoted and encouraged. In your face… I am right, you are wrong.

Something New

Chanan (khaw-nan’) (Ha nan)
Definition: to show favor, be gracious: usually in the bestowal of redemption from enemies, evils, and sins

  • Lift my eyes in expectation: to the One who will work things out for my good (Expect and See).
  • Lift my eyes in disregard: to the solutions of the world (the mountains).
  • Lift my eyes in belief: in One who created and knows me better than anyone.

“The goal of the pilgrim is not Jerusalem, as important as that city was, or even the temple in Jerusalem, as important as it was, but God himself, whose true throne is not anywhere on earth but in heaven.” (Boice)

Something to Do

Lift my eyes above the hate and worldly solutions to my problems to the only One who can and will bring peace.

  1. This was an excellent lesson and really spoke to me. I haven’t been looking up. Thanks Wendy

  2. I like the word ‘disregard’. It’s not a strong enough word in my opinion in describing our response to the world’s ‘help’, which more often than not, is not ‘help’ at all.
