Take It Seriously

If you seek Him, you will find Him.
1 Chronicles 28:9

My Takeaways

Something Old

This is how we take seriously our assignment:

  • Obey all the commands of the Lord your God.
  • Know the God of your ancestors intimately.
  • Worship Him wholeheartedly and with a willing spirit.
  • Serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing spirit.

Something New

So, take this seriously. The LORD has chosen you to build a Temple as His sanctuary. Be strong, and do the work. 1 Chronicles 28:10

Take my assignment seriously.  Be strong. God chose me for the work.

Something to Do

Take my assignment seriously.  Be strong. God chose me for the work.

  1. Good morning! Wendy – I LOVE the outdoor videos. It is raining here in New England and has been for what seems like WEEKS – and I have missed sitting out on my deck!

How bittersweet for David – all the work he put in, all the preparations and plans for the Temple – all while knowing that he would not have any part in the building! Oh, but what a legacy to pass to his son, Solomon!

But an even better legacy are his first words to Solomon “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him you will find him” (28:9) David’s first piece of advice was to know God INTIMATELY. David’s relationship with God was just that – intimate. He kept nothing hidden from God – he understood that nothing could be hidden from God. He brought his dirty, ugly, sinful actions and thoughts before the Lord. He worshiped and sought the Lord with a WHOLE heart. Not a perfect heart. Not a cleaned up heart – a WHOLE heart. He wasn’t intentionally sinning or doing the wrong things – he gave in to his flesh. His primary desire was an intimate relationship with the Lord. He was imperfect, he made really bad choices and decisions – but his heart was always set on God. Oh how I wish I could say I had intimacy with God like David. I still withhold (again, as if I even COULD!) and I am lacking in trust of His goodness and faithfulness toward me (oh how could I EVEN!!?? He has shown himself faithful in the past, yet I don’t trust Him in the present!!! Lord help my unbelief).

Also, as I was reading through the duties of the “Officials of David’s Kingdom” (1 Chron 27:25-34) I realize that there is NO job done for the Kingdom of God that is not important. Whether it is sharpening pencils to put in the pews, smiling as you greet people coming in to church, or preaching a sermon, it is all for His glory & fame!

To Do: Be honest with God. Keep pressing in and sharing my thoughts, fears, feelings with Him. He knows them all anyway!

  2. These verses were my takeaway today also. They encouraged me to continue my pursuit of knowing God intimately. They gave me a charge to, in my parenting…it’s been a tough parenting week…to keep at it, do the work, take it seriously and trust God to be with me and to see it finished correctly as I seek His guidance. Just want I needed to hear…God’s Word is alive!

  3. Good morning! I love the outdoor videos too. Winter keeps showing up here in Colorado so I am longing for warm days. Thankfully, I think today is going to be warmer but snow is in the forecast again next week 🙁 . My to do was the same as what Wendy shared. The whole heart AND willing mind part stuck out to me too- God wants my heart and my mind. I also put as a to-do to guard the spiritual treasures that are mine in Christ like those tasked with guarding the treasuries in 1 Chron. 26:20-32. I have experienced first hand the spiritual confusion in the world today and I want to take seriously the gift God gave me and not get pulled away into false thinking. Guarding something calls me to be active not passive. Like David says, do the work! My something new was that I never noticed that David says the plans for the temple were given to him in writing from the hand of the Lord. (1 Chron 28:19).

  4. HI! I was unable to check in yesterday so wanted to do so quick.
LOVE the change in scenery for the video!
You mentioned how we like to “predict” what verse you will pick–yesterday that verse jumped out at me and I thought “that’s the one!”
But the “nugget” that grabbed me was this–I was fascinated that it took THOUSANDS of workers for the Temple. What all kinds of jobs? (I love going into public places and thinking about this–how many people it takes to run places.) Here it is: “And each morning and evening they stood before the Lord to sing songs of thanks and praise to him.” 1 Chronicles 23:30 It was their JOB! Do I do that each morning and evening?
