Build A Temple Fit For King

So, I am planning to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD my God, just as He had instructed my father David.
1 Kings 5:5a

My Takeaways

Something Old

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16

The Temple fit for a king is

  • Built with complexity. (There were lots of rooms and levels, but were connected to the Temple with beams.)
Do I allow God to have access to all the places in my heart and soul?
  • Built quietly. (The stones were hewed away from the Temple to keep the noise level down at the Temple site.)
Do I cooperate or cause chaos with the Spirit’s work?
  • Built with quality. (Gold, cedar, and other precious stones were used.) Do I put in quality? Time. Education. Entertainment.

Build and maintain: We don’t have the right to pollute or abuse our Temple. We don’t belong to ourselves. We were bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. He paid a ransom for us. (Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 1:15-20)

Something New

God used two prostitutes to teach a lesson. He uses everyone to make His point.

Something to Do

Allow the Master Builder to craft a Temple fit for my King.

  1. Today’s reading and lesson really met me right where I am at! Thank you Wendy. And I do hope & pray that your dad is feeling better.

1 Kings 6:7 stood out to me this morning- Just because I don’t see or feel what God is doing in me, doesn’t mean He isn’t doing work. While the process of sanctification CAN be messy, it isn’t always messy and loud! I sometimes wonder if anything is being changed in me because I don’t see it happening fast enough – but our God is a finisher of what He starts!

Wendy’s question: “Do I allow God to have access to all the places in my heart & soul?” pierced me deep today. The honest answer is NO. Sometimes this is intentional – because to offer these places to the Lord means I need to look at them myself and I am just too afraid of what I will see. And sometimes it is unintentional – because I’m not even aware of the places that are hidden deep down. But God can reveal and then heal them IF I allow Him to have access.

“Often God’s work is done over time … through submitting myself to Him” … so daily I grow in this area – trusting Him and submitting to Him.

  2. Messages for Christ has a Utube channel with a couple of 3D renderings of Solomons Temple. Pretty awesome to see!! Helps me put things in perspective.
Our God is a God of great detail…so why don’t I give him every detail???

  3. Loved reading about Solomon’s wisdom and how it was truly God’s wisdom in him. I want to have godly wisdom when I’m working with my children and helping them through their disagreements. I desire to raise children who are wise, skilled and have understanding just as David did with Solomon.

I like up a few diagrams of Solomons Temple that helped me visualize all we read about today.

  4. -I noted Solomon’s wisdom in judging whose child the living child belonged to. “The people were in awe of him because of this.” (1 Kings 3:28)
I also noted that King Hiram of Tyre recognized Solomon’s wisdom and “praised the LORD for it”. (1 Kings 5:7)

-I am thankful for the connection Wendy made with believers being the temple of the God with the Spirit of God living in me.

-My Something To Do: Look up pictures of the temple in my Study Bible, which I have done. I want to look at the videos mentioned above later today.

  5. I loved Watching the YouTube channel about the temple. Thanks ladies for that piece of information. What got my attention today was the importance of Mount Moriah. A number of key historical events have taken place there.
    1. Abraham Offers Isaac – It was here where Abraham’s faith was tested when God instructed him to offer up his son Isaac in sacrifice (Gen. Gen. 22:1).
    2. Site of Solomon’s Temple – In 990 B.C., King David was instructed by God to erect an altar on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite which occupied this site. David purchased the land which later became the site of Solomon’s Temple (2S. 24:18-25; 1Chr. 1Chr. 21:18-26; 2Chr. 2Chr. 3:1).
    3. The Crucifixion of Jesus – On the very mountain where Abraham was asked to sacrifice his “only son” (Gen. Gen. 22:2, Gen. 22:12),
    God sacrificed His only Son.
There is a common thread that links Abraham’s experience on Mount Moriah, the Israelites, offering of sacrifices there, and Jesus’ crucifixion. On the mountain site he had chosen, God provided a substitute for sacrificing Isaac, the Jews offered sacrifices to God as a substitutionary way to receive forgiveness of sins, and Jesus took our sins upon himself and died as our sacrificial lamb.
