What Would I Ask For?

Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?
1 Kings 3:9

My Takeaways

Something Old

I still have such a long way to go to be like Jesus.

Something New

If you could ask God for anything, what would it be?

Wealth?

Stuff?

Notoriety?

Do I care enough abut God’s people to ask for something that would benefit His kingdom or would I be selfish and ask for something for myself?

Something to Do

I am so thankful for God’s patience and grace.

  1. -Something Old: “Solomon loved the LORD and followed all the decrees of his father, David, EXCEPT that Solomon, too, offered sacrifices and burned incense at the local places of worship.” (1 Kings 3:3)

-Something New: I didn’t really understand what all was going on in 1 Kong’s 2:13-46. The ESV Study Bible notes and David Guzik’s commentary helped me to understand that Adonijah was basically trying to establish himself as king instead of Solomon. Solomon clearly understood what was going on and took action to stop it. Verse 46 says, “So the kingdom was now firmly in Solomon’s grip.”

-Something To Do: As Solomon did, ask God for an understanding heart, wisdom, and knowledge. Think about Wendy’s question about how I might use these to benefit the kingdom of God.

  2. Dear Wendy,
thank you for letting us pray for your father and you and your family. We are a family here at RTW.

A thankful sacrifice- when my mother was so very ill I could not get there in time due to the distance- so I just sat and prayed until my mother’s soul left this earth and she was with Jesus. She passed away around 4:30 pm and my sister called me right away to let me know mom was gone. I am so thankful Jesus gave me my mom and that I could fully release her spirit that day to Him. Thankful for her life. Thankful sacrifice.

The first thing that popped into my mind- what I would ask God for is mercy. Then I thought that I would also ask for compassion and unfailing love for everyone. Change my heart Father eternal.

Please get some rest-actually get alot of rest. I love you Wendy Pope!
