Offering Peace

These are the instructions regarding the different kinds of peace offerings that may be presented to the Lord.
Leviticus 7:11

My Takeaways

Something Old

Is the peace offering for peace or because of peace?

Something New

They weren’t bringing this offering to God to try to right a wrong, like a husband bringing flowers home to his wife after working late for many nights in a row.

That’s propitiation: to please someone by giving them something conciliatory, to placate or pacify.

Three reasons for the Peace Offering:

  1. Praise God for His goodness – His unsought generosity
  2. Promise of a vow with the keeping of a vow: Hannah (1 Samuel 1:24 wine and flour) when she took Samuel to God
  3. Private thanksgiving for deliverance from trouble.

Something to Do

Praise God for the peace He has brought into my life.

  1. I will need to go deeper with this but these are the things that stood out to me as I read today.

It is most holy. Leviticus 7:1
(again) For it is most holy. Lev 7:6
Set apart to serve the Lord. Lev 7:3
Gold medallion-the badge of holiness. Lev 8:9
Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the Tabernacle and everything in it, making them holy. Lev 8:10
Then he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, anointing him and making him holy for his work. Lev 8:12
Everything we have done today was commanded by the Lord in order to purify you, making you right with him. Lev 8:34

My gracious, how in the world did Moses and the priests and people keep track of all these specific instructions, wow!
I praise and thank God for his pardon in all of that for my own life!
However, God has specific instructions for us to follow as his most holy people. We are set apart for the Lord and we are to be dedicated to God’s service.
When we accepted Jesus we were given the gold medallion-the badge of holiness. My heart is convicted to take this seriously. To remember who I am and what God expects of me. It’s a relationship, not rules and rituals as in the OT. My desire is to live in a constant state of praise for Gods unsought generosity in my life! Thank you Jesus, that I am free to praise, worship, and seek Him at all times!

  2. ~Something New: The peace offering of thanksgiving was to be accompanied by bread made both with yeast and without yeast in addition to an animal sacrifice. Not sure of the significance of both kinds of bread, but I had not noticed before that both were required. I always though it was just bread without yeast that was offered.

~Something To Do: The sacrifices cost the people something each and every time. What does offering my body as a living sacrifice cost me (Romans 12:1)? Make this offering a conscious part of my time with the Lord each morning. Ask Him to give me a wiling heart to boy “just as He commands” me.

  3. – Aaron was set apart for the work of the Lord. I couldn’t help think back to the golden calf incident and how Aaron allowed the people to talk him into making an idol. Yet God redeemed Aaron and still used him as the high priest. My past sin doesn’t disqualify me from being used of God.

    – Lev 8:23 talks about applying blood on Aaron’s ear, thumb and toe. I had a note in my bible that said this was to purify his ears to hear from The lord, his hands to do the lord’s work and his feet to walk with the Lord.

    – I have been set apart by God through Jesus. Am I doing his work? To remain holy and set apart I must remain in him. To remain in him is to keep his word (Jn 15:10).

  4. Good Morning! If you get an opportunity check out Wendy’s lesson on Leviticus 7 over on the first5 app. Rich teaching!

    1. It’s 2/19 and I can’t figure out how to access Wendy’s First 5 teaching from 2/18. Is there an archive somewhere on the app?

      1. Yes?. Go to the section called “Plans”. There you’ll see the study of Leviticus and Hebrews. Click on that and scroll to Leviticus 7. There you’ll see her lesson. It is not organized by dates but rather by books & chapters. Hope that helps!

  5. You know we have it so easy today. If we’ve sinned, want to thank god, etc… all we have to do it pray. I think of all that they had to do and the cost for forgiveness that I’m thinking people then would try harder not to sin, not like us today.

  6. When Windy shared about our very breath we breathe, this scripture came to mind!
Job 34:13 Who gave Him charge over the earth?
Or who appointed Him over the whole world?
14 If He should set His heart on it,
If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath,
15 All flesh would perish together,
And man would return to dust.

Another scripture that comes to mind “who is man that you are mindful of him”..
Another scripture “if it wasn’t for Hia mercy we would be consumed”.

I am thankful for the peace offering symbolizing Jesus, the “Prince” of peace! Because of His sacrifice there is the “mercy” seat, and God the Father sees us through the blood of His Son!!
