Regarding Holiness

Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu put coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over them. In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded.
Leviticus 10:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

Mix the spices together to make a sweet-smelling incense. Do this the same as a perfume maker would do it. Also mix salt with this incense. This will make it pure and special. Grind some of the incense until it becomes a fine powder. Put the powder in front of the Holy Box that holds the Agreement in the Meeting Tent. This is the place where I meet with you. You must use this incense powder only for its very special purpose. You must use it only in this special way for the Lord. You must also make it in a special way. Don’t make any other incense in this way. (ERV) Exodus 30:35-37

Something New

Aren’t we thankful that we don’t experience immediate judgement?

Do I show disregard for God’s holiness?

  • Pride
  • Leaning on my thinking.
  • Worship and offerings that please man and not God

Something to Do

Repent of strange fire I have offered to God.

  1. – Obedience is key to a healthy, intimate relationship with God. God wants an intimate relationship with me. He is holy so therefore I must be holy to enter into relationship with him. Jesus made the way for me to be holy before him. Keep abiding by keep obeying (Jn 15). “A legacy of great spiritual expqerience cant keep me right with God — only an abiding relationship grounded in the truth of God’s Word can.” David Guzick

  2. ~Burning the wrong kind of fire before God cost Nadab and Abihu their lives. It was “different than he had commanded”. God wants us to obey “just as he commands”. No compromise. No doing it our own way.

~Lev 11:45b “Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.” As one of. God’s set-apart people today, I must take my obedience to God seriously. His commands are for my good, even when I may not fully understand them or like them at the time.

  3. Gods word is abundantly clear, especially on this side of the cross! God holds up His Name and His Word above all else (Psalms 138:2). Revelations 22 if any man shall add…..if any man shall take away from the words (His Word);…..there are consequences.
Going back before the cross in Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add unto the word which I commanded you, neither shall you diminish ought from it.

God’s judgments are never wrong. Nadab and Abihu got what they deserved. God saw every aspect of their unholy act as it unfolded. Were they so blinded by their exalted position, the eldest sons, ranked above others, like Lucifer in his pride “I will exalt my throne”. They added and subtracted to God’s words, to what God commanded. They had tried to get by with what they carnally felt was acceptable.

God’s instructions were clear: among those consecrated by God to serve Him and His family, His instructions must be explicitly followed. There was no ambiguity in the instructions, the spiritual design was to teach certain spiritual concepts but.they blatantly twisted God’s Word.

1 Samuel 15 Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to harken than the fat of Rams.

  4. A few days ago I asked God to reveal my sin to me. Sin I was either aware or unaware of. He did, yesterday. And todays reading put big fat ‼️ mark on it. It’s pride. I have been so prideful in my marriage for different reasons, but the past 2 days have rocked my world. It was so heavy it almost crushed me but God showed me first, then wanted me to give it to him. It was a big day for me. God opened my eyes, gave me a new perspective. A stronghold was broken. I’ve been praying for years for a change and it came yesterday. I see so clearly now. I see that I was so blinded by lies, the enemy having his way over and over again in my mind and heart. I cannot thank Jesus enough for his sacrifice for me and the grace I have been given. I deserve God’s judgement but Jesus made a way for me to receive God’s Grace and Mercy instead. It’s a new day for me. I woke up feeling like I went through the ringer yesterday, it was hard but I am SO thankful for ALL that God revealed.
