We Never Suffer Alone

Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.

My Takeaways

Something Old

He went Gethsemane

Gethsemane- http://www.differentspirit.org/posts/gethsemane-and-what-follows.php

Something New

Patḗr (“father”) is used of our heavenly Father. He imparts life, from physical birth to the gift of eternal life through the second birth (regeneration, being born again). Through ongoing sanctification, the believer more and more resembles their heavenly Father – i.e. each time they receive faith from Him and obey it, which results in their unique glorification.

Something to Do

Praise Jesus for His obedience.

  1. My Takeaways: Be strong and courages

Something Old: The time had come for God’s plan to unfold. Jesus was about to endure great suffering, isolation, and death. He would endure all of this for me, for you, for the entire world. Through it all Jesus never panicked. He was calm, courageous, and determined. He knew his purpose.Through His death he changed the world forever.

Something New: “Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (Luke 22: 42)
Jesus said yes to the Lord’s will, even though He was afraid and offered to lay down His life, even though it was, we the sinners, that should’ve been sacrificed. The wrath of God was about to turn loose on Him.  And Jesus knew it. He prayed for God’s will above all else.  And God’s will was done. Jesus took God’s wrath in my place. Jesus is truly my Savior! I too must follow Jesus’ lead and say yes to God’s will, even though it may not be easy and could possibly even cause me pain and heartache. I must always remember that Christ humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death for me. So whatever God is asking me to do today is nothing compared to what He asked Christ to do. My problems appear difficult at times, but in comparison to what Jesus faced how can I ever complain . God loves me and died for me. He will never leave me. I must always trust in him and take time daily to truly reflect on what todays reading really means.

Something To Do: “Be strong and of good courage; do not fear or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

  2. I’ve known this story since childhood. I know the outcome. Yet, I still dread reading it again. The suffering is so great, often to the point of being overwhelming. And the fact that He went through this pain and humiliation for me! I’m humbled. I’m filled with gratitude. I long for resurrection!
