  1. Thank for the great insight, I have never thought about this scripture in this way before. I love how God illuminates things for us in his Word!

  2. Wendy:

I was struck by this exact same thing today!! Thank you for expounding on it…..wow!! Lots to consider!!

  3. Wendy, is there any way you can adjust the microphone? It seems the sound is not as loud as it used to be (or I need hearing aids) ?
    Thank you!

  4. My Takeaways: Selfless Service

Something Old: The Washing of Their Feet, John 13:1-7. A lot of lessons in this small recap. Interesting that only the gospel of John gives us the details. Something that I always seem take from these verses is the fact that I too must have a servant heart like Jesus. And like He promised I will be greatly blessed. He alone was great, yet He was the Suffering Servant, humble and willing to stoop in order to help others. I need to follow His lead.

Something New: What stood out to me today, verse 8, “Jesus replied, Unless I wash you you won’t be long to me.” I know this whole episode teaches us a lot about service and humility but this verse spoke differently to me today. I felt as if it was relating to the very core of my salvation by grace – Forgiveness of sins. The lesson I took from this verse today was all about Christ washing me clean from all impurity. I can have no part with Him unless I am willing to put on the righteousness of Christ. It is only then that I can have salvation. Maybe the disciples, even at this late stage of Christ’s time with them still did not fully grasp what Christ’s mission on this earth was truly all about. Jesus’ kingdom was not of this earth, but was spiritual. This simple act was to show that unless they be washed away of their sins, they could not inherit the kingdom of God.  The message of repentance and forgiveness was at the very heart of Christ’s teachings. When I come to Christ for the washing of my sins, I can be sure that is permanent and complete. No act can cleanse me further from my sin. My sin has been exchanged for the perfect righteousness of Christ on the cross. But I do need continual cleansing from the effects of my sinful nature from living in this world.
Even after I got baptized I still committed sins, and needed the partial cleansing as symbolized by the feetwashing Jesus performed. The continual washing of sanctification is done by the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives within me. Through this washing He
has equipped me for every good work. Making Jesus’ reply, “Unless I wash you you won’t be long to me.” much easier to grasp on this side of the cross.

Something To Do: Thank Jesus for what he did at the cross. Be a servant to others.
