The Loser

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
Mark 8:35

My Takeaways

Something Old

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose [die, destroy, perish, cut off entirely it].  But if you give up [die, destroy, perish, cut off entirely it] your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News [gospel], you will save [preserve, heal, do well, make whole it]. (AMP)
Mark 8:35

Something New

I don’t mind being a loser. I choose to be a loser because I want to be a winner – the winner of life, whole and healed.

Something to Do

Be a loser…don’t lose the plot.

  1. For most of my Christian life I have known that I am to decrease and God is to increase. I’m not sure if there have been periods of my life that I focused on this….but today I can tell you that God has put this ……I must decrease, in order for Him to increase in my life……on my heart, soul and mind.

As I walk through a storm, with God at my side, I PRAISE HIM for leading me to focus on me decreasing and Him increasing in my life.

Thank you Wendy, for yet another time of God speaking to me, as a confirmation, through this Bible Study.

    Blessings to all.

  2. I was challenged by Jesus’ question of “who do you say that I am” How would I answer that and is it the answer He would desire. I know He’s my savior but I want my heart to burst with He’s my friend!

In Jesus rebuke of Peter he said Peter had only a humans point of view and not God’s point of view. I want to be looking at all circumstances through God’s point of view and point others to His perspective and truth not my own.

    Be a disciple!
    – Turn from my selfish ways
    – take up my cross
    – follow Jesus
    – let go of my grip on my life
    – don’t be ashamed of Jesus or His message.

  3. My Takeaways: Jesus is the promised Messiah

Something Old : So much to focus on today. A major turn in the direction of Jesus’ ministry. The realization that Jesus was indeed the promised Messiah that we read so much about in the Old Testament comes to surface today. The inception of the church, his upcoming death and resurrection and the Mount of Tranformation is a lot to grasp in one setting. How confusing these things had to be for the disciples at this time. But the time would be coming when they soon would be able to understand why God had to die. I am blessed today to have God’s revealed word, the Bible. I have no excuse. The Bible gives me full meaning of who Jesus was and what his life, death and resurrection mean to me. Mark 9:7 “… this is my dearly love son. Listen to him.” Jesus is the Son of God, He is who I must trust and obey. His words are what I need to know and understand. Many people try to tell me how to live and how to know God personally. Some are helpful, but many are not. I need to test everything in light of what the Bible says and what it has revealed to me so I can decrease and He can increase. Knowing that Jesus Christ is God’s son, makes it much easier to listen and obey everything He has to say through his word. I have no excuse not to.

Something New: “Now I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”  Where would I be today without the church? Praise God for Jesus instituting the body of Christ, Jesus’ church!  And all of the powers of hell will not conquer the body of Christ!    I honestly cannot imagine what my life would be like without the church. It was through the church where I first met Jesus. Jesus changed my life forever.  Thank God for the church! The body of Christ is the “hope of the world.”

Something To Do: Listen and obey. Stay in the word so I can share what I know and grow more like Jesus. Be an active participant in the church.
