Living Successfully Well

He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
John 3:30

My Takeaways

Something Old

John said, “Therefore I must be filled with joy at his success.”

Would I be able to say this?

Something New

Contentment is the key to experiencing success.

It’s only when we push through our feelings of envy and jealous and embrace our mission, that we experience God’s pleasure.

God defines success

Knowing we have brought joy to our Heavenly Father will enable us to be filled with joy as others around us enjoy success.

Something to Do

Celebrate another’s success today, even if it is something small.

  1. I am a day late in reading but just had to say something. I was quilty of this when I decided to finally give my all to Jesus many years ago.. Another women was saved at the same time. She had gained attention and praise. She was praising God for what He had done in her life. I began to say to myself. Well I am important to why is she gaining more than me. Just listening to you Wendy about success I was jealous and coveting her testimony more and realized I needed to repent of this. Thank you for your wisdom in explaining so I could rise above and to be filled with joy at others success! Its so humbling to ask the LORD for forgiveness!

  2. Rejoice in any and every success for the kingdom. Don’t be jealous or self focused. He must increase I must decrease. Be a seed planter and a seed harvester.

John 4 stood out to me today. Jesus’ whole encounter and dialogue with the woman at the well made me ask “am I willing to meet people where they’re at even if they’re an outcast?” Also, am I drinking of the well of eternal life now?” Eternal life is for today in Jesus I don’t have to wait for death to experience his abundant life. I was also blessed by the fact that I can worship Jesus in spirit and truth. I don’t have to go to the temple and go through a priest in order to worship him. He made the way possible for me to have instant, constant access to him. Do i use that access like I should? The last part that stood out to me was that Jesus’ nourishment came from doing God’s will. Am I doing God’s will? Am I finding spiritual nourishment by obeying God?
So much rich truth in today’s reading to meditate on today!

  3. My Takeaways: Salvation comes only through Christ

Something Old: “And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the son of man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.” (Johb 3:14-15) It seemed like yesterday when I read about God sending the snakes to punish the Israelites for their disobedience. So these verses got my attention today. Reading the Old testament through before reading the New Testament certainly helps me to understand and see that Jesus is the entire point of the whole Bible. In Moses day they just had to look up to the bronze snake and believe God would heal them and it was so. Jesus has healed me from the deadly bite of sin today, by lifting himself upon the cross and dying in my place. Faith in Christ is not a “work,” or something I do, any more than choosing to look at the serpent on the pole was. Death could be prevented in both cases to anyone. Only when one refuses to look and believe will they miss out on being rescued.

Something New: Though Nicodemus was a religious Pharasee he was no different than the Samaritan woman who had many husbands and living presently with a man that was not her husband. Both were guilty before God. When I acknowledge my guilt and come to Christ, salvation is mine. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (Jn. 3:17).
