The Word

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

The Word in John 1 is referring to Jesus Christ. I love hearing what The Word was:

The Word already existed in beginning.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Through all that we have read thus far, The Word has been there.

The Word was God.
“Come let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” (NIV)  (Genesis 11:7) The people were building the tower to reach the heavens the response from heaven was “let us” go down. The Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost. Jesus was God. Wow, this is blowing my mind.

The Word gave life.
“And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds.” (NIV) (Genesis 1:24a) All life: plants, animal, and human exists because of The Word. The Word gives temporal and external life. (Read John 3:16)

Something New

John the Baptist had to speak of Savior he had never seen. We do the same.

Something to Do

Praising God for The Word.

  1. So glad to have gone through this journey with everyone in RTW. The Old Testament has been great to read and study. Looking forward to The New Testament.
    Something to do
Praise and thank God for the WORD.

  2. John 1:4. “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone”. The only reason I live and breathe is because of Jesus – because in the beginning he chose to create me! I have his DNA! This blows my mind!

Something New: John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit BEFORE his birth. I knew this – but it just hit me in a new way.

Something to do: be the light that I was created to be!!!

  3. Mary and Elizabeth’s respondes to God really stood out to me this time. Elizabeth was overjoyed at Gods kindness to her. Mary was willing to accept and do whatever God asked of her – she trusted God to do what He said. His word does not fail! I want to have this heart response to whatever God asks of me. To be willing to do it trusting in His ability to work through me. I have felt a desire in my heart to lead our women’s group at church in RTW in 2019. To have us all reading and watching the teaching each day and then meeting once a month to encourage each other and share what we’re learning. I’m excited about it but also not sure and worried women won’t come or will wane off as time goes on. I was encouraged today be Mary and Elizabeth’s response to keeep seeking the lord and move forward if he leads me knowing He’ll make it happen for his glory if it’s his will.

    1. I have felt the same desire, haneg20. I want to lead a ladies group at my church in RTW and I have the same fears as you.

      1. lkennedy I’ll be praying for you…will you pray for me as well? I want others to experience how awesome it is to be in God’s Word and doing it together would be even more amazing!

    2. Good Morning Haneg20,
I just wanted to see if you are still planning to lead a group through RTW. I put mine out there last month in our church bulletin. I really felt the Lord was leading me to do this. I have never lead a small group before, so this is totally out of my comfort zone. I think it will be a huge endeavor. I have a total of 8 ladies that signed up. Which to me is perfect, I don’t want a large group because discussion might not go as well. OK enough about me. I wanted to share a couple of awesome websites that I think might help you lead your group and they are all free!!! The first is http://www.BiAY.org. by Steve Ferguson. He offers everything free to download from this site. I went ahead and bought his study guide and haven’t regretted it one bit. He has a leaders guide and all the handouts and questions you would need for your group. Remember all of this can be downloaded from his web page if you didn’t want to purchase. Also I like the website https://chronologicalbibleteaching.com/media#!/swx/pp/media_archives/309983/episode/76684. This site is all free too. It has Iva May, her husband and daughter doing weekly videos over the readings. First you get the weeks preview on Sunday, then tough questions on Wednesdays and finally a review over the week on Saturday. These are short 1-5 minute videos sent to your email address. She also offers her weekly podcasts lectures that run about an hour. It’s the same lectures she uses to teach her class all for free. You should check her website out too. She also has books you can purchase too. I think these two websites will really help you as you plan your weekly Bible study. I have continued to pray for you and am excited to hear what you have decided to do for next year. Please get back with me and let me know. I also wanted to tell you that I have kept everyone of my post this year and made it into a devotional notebook. I am giving all my children and my sisters a copy of the chronological Bible and my notebook for Christmas minus Dec. 20-31, which those pages will have to be added to their notebooks after Christmas because I had to make time to make copies and assemble their notebookswhich was a costly project, but I feel like it has been totally worth it. This has been a great year for me and I am very happy that I was able to do RTW with you. You blessed me in more ways then you will ever know with your shared insights. I am very thankful for Wendy and her dedication to RTW. Remember let me know if you will be doing a small group for the upcoming year.

  4. My Takeaways: The Good News

Something Old: Mark 1:1a ” This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.” How exciting to be starting the New Testament today. Looking back the Old Testament is like developing pictures in a dark room. I know the pictures are there, but until I go through the process I can’t switch the light on. Well I went through the process of reading the Old Testament and today I get to switch the light on and see the big picture clearly. To paraphrase St Augustine, ‘In the Old the New is concealed, in the New the Old is revealed.’

Something New: For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 God is sovereign, all-powerful, and able to do all that He chooses. Two pregnancies, two miracles. Both of these ladies were surprised by God with complete life changes, an unforeseen direction. But they put all their faith and trust in what the Lord had planned. These are two very amazing women!

Something To Do: Be faithful and courages like Elizabeth and Mary

  5. So much to love in this reading, especially John’s prologue! Hard to believe this rich writing is the prologue! But John 1:17, “For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ,” nicely sums up the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament, from the Law to Jesus’ Love!
So glad to be studying with you, Wendy and RTW family. ❤️
