Choosing Rebellion

No one can tell it anything; it refuses all correction. It does not trust in the Lord or draw near to its God.
Zephaniah 3:2

Something Old

Something New

Jeremiah 48:7

We are easily taken captive by trusting in our own wealth and skill.

Something to Do

Live my life with a teachable, trainable, trusting, and approachable heart. So that God will not ever say of me, “No one can tell her anything.  She refuses all correction. She will not trust the LORD or draw near to Him.” Zephaniah 3:2

  1. My Takeaways: There is so much going on in the reading today. Im finding it hard, once again, to just focus on one thing.

Something Old: The book of Zephaniah gives me much hope. It started out depressing and hopeless but by the time I got to the end I saw much hope. “On that day I will gather you together and bring you home again I will give you a good name, a named of distinction, among all the nations of the Earth, as I restore your fortunes before they’re very eyes I the Lord have spoken!” (3:20) God is coming back to bless his people. Justice will prevail, evil will be destroyed and all believers will have the Lord himself live among them. Zephaniah brings much hope to all believers when he prophecies about “in that day” I know it will be a day of rejoicing. No matter how difficult my experiences are now I can look forward to the day of celebration when God will completely restore me. It will truly be a day to rejoice! While I am patiently waiting for that day I’ll put my trust in God and pray that I will walk humbly with Him,and do what is right.

Something New: “So they lifted Josiah out of his chariot and placed him in another chariot. Then they brought him back to Jerusalem, where he died…” This was sad and confussing. King Josiah tried to prevent Neco from passing through the land and it cost him his life. I wonder why Josiah ignored Neco’s message? Was it because he was a king of a pagan Nation?

    1. Oops, I didn’t finish my post.

Im thinking maybe he went to war without seeking God’s direction. He assumed that he knew what was taking place and that it was right to enter the fight. He was wrong. I must assume nothing, but, instead, pray. Acting upon assumptions is unwise and rarely ends well. I need to be cautious rather than careless, lest the enemy stick an arrow in me.

Something To Do: Trust God, Pray in all situations, seek God’s advice first.
