Wanna Know God?

“He gave justice and help to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” says the LORD.
Jeremiah 22:16

My Takeaways

Something Old

Then some of the wise old men stood and spoke to all the people assembled there. They said, “Remember…” Jeremiah 26:17

Let’s listen to the wise and seasoned who speak truth to us.

Something New

Wanna know God? Know and love people.

Poor:  poor and weak, oppressed by the rich and powerful (aw nee)

Needy:  in want: chiefly poor of material things

Know

  • dah’-ath: in highest sense, knowledge of God (including obedience)
  • yada’: experiential knowledge God in a great variety of senses

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (NIV) Mark 12:30-31

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (NIV) Matthew 7:12

Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. (NIV) John 13:35

  1. My Takeaways: Learn from past mistakes

Something Old: The recurring theme in my reading today again seems to be that Judah did not listen to, obey, or heed the Word of the Lord. God always continues to show me grace and pursue me, but at some point I have to accept the invitation from God! I have to accept the invitation of faith in his son Jesus. I have to accept the invitation to repent of my sins. While God will extend his grace and the invitation time and time and time again – he won’t do so forever for me. If I keep rejecting him. Israel, did not accept the invitation from God to repent. Which resulted in a very bad situation for them. I am glad that I have accepted the invitation from God to repent through faith in his son, Jesus Christ. I am glad that I believe and that I can accept the salvation that I have through Jesus Christ. THANK YOU, FOR SENDING YOUR SON TO DIE ON THE CROSS FOR ME!

Something New: Jeremiah 26 — I found the series of events with the courts and priests very interesting in my read today. I never realized until today how similar Jeremiah was treated like Jesus during His last hours. Though Jeremiah was spared his life. Todays read also made me think about Jesus’s early life when I read about the prophet Uriah. He was chased into Egypt, captured and killed. I wonder why Jeremiah’s life was spared for speaking the same message as Uriah, but Uriah’s message cost him his life? I think when I am confronted with a call to repent from sins, I need to. I don’t need to rage back and accuse the accuser of sins. Being stubborn can cause my heart to harden.

Something To Do: Before I dismiss someone who comfronts me for my sins I need to listen and look at myself and change my ways and be thankful that I was advised in advance.

    1. I’m a few days behind and catching up, but as always I appreciate your comments. I, too, noticed the parallels between Jeremiah and Jesus, particularly with regard to the “angry mob.”
