  1. My Takeaways: Rejoice

    Something Old:
I read messages from two prophets — Habakkuk and Zephaniah. Their prophecies were similar in nature to the others I’ve been reading. They were predicting the fall of Judah to Babylon. In some ways Habakkuk reminded me of the end of the book of Job, with the conversation going on between Habakkuk and God.  Hanakkuk, like Job, did not fear or complain, instead, he chose joy. “I will rejoice in the Lord!” It’s hard to be content in the midst of chaos or to trust the Lord in the midst of trials or tragedy. Joy is a choice. When I choose joy I am relying upon my faith in God instead of reacting to my fear of the circumstances.
Though it is not easy, when I choose joy and trust the Lord, I will be as “sure footed as a deer.” He will help me navigate the obstacles and “bring me safely over the mountain!” When I rejoice in the Lord, He helps me climb over the obstacles in my life!

Something New: Zephaniah, is not a book that I have read before so that’s something new. But so far it appears to be a lot like the other phophetic books. Announcing God’s coming judgment against Judah and like the other prophets, Zephaniah also writes about God saving a remnant of people who love and honor God with their lives. Zephaniah 2:3 again reminded me that there are several things that set the righteous remnant apart from a corrupt world. The righteous remnant seek God, obey His commandments and are humble.

Something To Do: Turn from sin, humble myself, obey God and choice to be joyful.
