Why I Don’t Have To Fear

David now stayed in the strongholds of the wilderness and in the hill country of Ziph.
1 Samuel 23:14a

My Takeaways

Something Old

God:

  • Is in control. (v15)
  • Will send encouragement when we need it and from where we least expect it. (V16)
  • Will tell us what we need to know when we need to know it. (V25)
  • Will thwart the enemy’s plan on our behalf. (V26)

Something New

Amazed at David’s self-control in killing Saul and Nabal. He listened to reason.

Something to Do

In our place of hiding, tell ourselves, “I don’t have to fear!”

  1. My Takeaways: Get over myself

Something Old: “… Saul went into a cave to relieve himself.” This always surprises me that the Bible would mention this detail. Here is Saul wanting some privacy, which meant he was alone in the cave – no soldiers – no bodyguards, but wait, there was a cave full of enemies! Isn’t that just like God arranging the scene, for testing David, training David, and displaying David’s godly heart.

Something New: David was able to love and pursue Saul at a great cost to himself. He had great courage and humility. He respected who God put in authority.

Something To Do: Remember that God is my authority. Don’t fall into peer pressure. Know that God never changes. He arranges things so His original plans always prevail.
