A Sudden Change

So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam.
1 Samuel 22:1a

My Takeaways

Something Old

Adullam is the on the south side hilltop of the Valley of Elah. Often trials come on the hills of victories.

Something New

The brothers that were rude to him joined him in the cave of Adullam.

  • Tell Him our troubles. (Be honest: overwhelmed, Psalm 142:3) (Alone and left out, Psalm 142:4)
  • Ask for His help
  • Assess His importance in our lives (Psalm 142:5)

Then I pray to you O LORD. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.”
Psalm 142:5

When He is all we have we will find out He is all we need.

  3. My Takeaways: Saul is an evil tyrant.

Something Old: Saul destroyed Israel’s priesthood. He had rebelled against God. 1 Samuel 22:18 “Then the king said to Doeg “You do it.” So Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, 85 priest in all, still wearing their priestly garments.”

Something New: God’s ways are not our ways and often very hard to understand. I think God sometimes allows evil to develop to teach us lessons. Even though I don’t always understand, I can rest assured that in time all evil will be abolished. If I remain faithful through the many trials and experiences that I will face during my lifetime I will have great rewards in the age to come.

Something To Do: Remain faithful to God. I must always make sure I am following God’s desires and not my own. Because God is my highest authority I should never allow a leader to pressure me to go against God’s law. Always stand up to what is right.
