The Complaint Department

A friend of mine used to work in customer service and often recounted her experiences to me. She told me that customers seemed only to want to vent and convince her to implement what they deemed to be an appropriate fix to their problem … even if it was out of her control.

The Complaint Department hears about it all: broken vacuums, malfunctioning cars, ripped couch cushions, cold food … but where does one go to complain about life?

King David headed straight to the Head of the Complaint Department in Psalm 64:1b, “Oh God, listen to my complaint.” (NLT) He had some mental and emotional unrest and needed someone to hear him out and help him.

Individuals had done him wrong. They spoke untruths and schemed against him. King David had had enough and let God know all about it. He used the word listen. Listen, translated as hear, means hear, listen to, and obey. David was saying to God, “Listen and please do something about this!”

When harmful lies and painful words are hurled our way, we have two options: run to the phone or run to God’s throne. It’s easy to believe that God is not interested in our problems, whether they are petty or insurmountable. But David, the king of Israel, a powerful warrior, and a man after God’s own heart, gave us permission to complain to the Lord—the only one who is truly in control over our situation.

We can share with Him the hurts and frustrations that come with relationships. When others wound us, rather than turning immediately to a friend for comfort, we have a willing and waiting God to listen to what’s on our heart. We may rest assured that He not only hears, He cares. What a relief!

God is waiting to listen and do something about our problems. King David trusted God to bring him justice. We can do the same.

  1. This is very good. Was just thinking about how often I have ran to others while I was in pain….and those same people that I confided in often end up hurting me the same way….leaving me questioning why. It was revealed to me recently that sometimes silence is the best solution. Especially when we are speaking from a place of hurt or misunderstanding….we can misjudged a situation or become critical or hurtful towards others with our mouths….so I’ve decided to keep my mouth closed and share my issue with God. He can be trusted at all times to handle any situation. This post is just the confirmation I needed…Thanks for sharing truth. God bless u!
