TGFABT – Psalm 50
The Spirituality of Worship
Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.
Psalm 50:23
At the time when this psalm was composed, it would seem that there was
- a general reliance on the mere ceremonies of public worship;
- the spirituality of religion had vanished;
- general, prevalence, of moral corruption among the people.
Barnes
Worship has little to do with demonstration and everything to do with contemplation.
- full or deep consideration; reflection
- purpose or intention
Consider who we are worshiping, reflect on what He has done with the purpose and intent to glorify Him
John 4:23-24
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
The Father Seeks and Jesus tells us to seek.
Matthew 6:33
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Study Questions
Truth Tuesday
Journal: What is truth is God teaching your truth Psalm 50?
Pay the cost of real faith–whatever God asks me to sacrifice.
Word Study Wednesday
“The might God even the LORD hath spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.” Psalm 50:1 (KJV)
Sometimes I just like to read His Word in the King James. This is not part of the word study but is it beautiful to me to today. It is beautiful and poetic and in the next breath convicting and grave.
“Seeing thou hatest instruction and castest my word behind thee….” Psalm 50:16
Hatest (Strong’s 8130)
- Enemy, foe, be hateful
Instruction (Strong’s 4148)
- Correction, check, and discipline.
Castest (Strong’s 7993)
- Hurl, pluck, cast-down, forth, off
I shudder and shake to my core thinking of the time I have made God’s discipline and correction my enemy. Oh, and the times I have cast off His words for the temporary pleasures I thought would bring me great joy and peace.
Lord forgive me for me…forgive me. I am so very grateful that your anger only last for a moment.
Thankful Thursday
