I Used To
“These things I remember as I pour out my soul:how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God,with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.”
- Have I ever missed fellowship with God this much?
- Is there anything stealing my communion with God?
- Do I even realize I am out of communion with God?
To be this thirsty, we have to have partaken of the Living Water:
- We have to miss communion.
- We can move forward by looking back and learning. (See Barnes quote below)
- We stay in communion with God by using what we learn to propel us.
“I will remember these things, and I will pour out my soul within me.” That is, it is not a mere recollection of the past, but it indicates a state or purpose of mind – a solemn resolution to bear these things ever in remembrance, and to allow them to produce a proper impression on his mind and heart that would not be effaced (erased) by time. Though the future tense is used as denoting what the state of his mind would be, the immediate reference is to the past. The sorrows and afflictions which had overwhelmed him were the things he would remember.
Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 42?
Do I long for communion/fellowship and worship with the Living God, my Living God?
Word Study Wednesday
“By day the Lord directs his love,at night His song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life”
“Yet the LORD will command His loving kindness in the daytime and in the night His song shall be with me and my prayer unto the God of my life.” (KJV)
- Command– to give charge to, order
- Loving Kindness-goodness, favour
The LORD (our covenant God) orders His goodness and favour in my daytime and music in my night…
No wonder the psalmist calls Him “the God of my life.” I love that He is the God of my life.
Journal: Tell God something you are thankful for.
I am thankful for the good news I received concerning a prayer request.
