The Right Rhythm

Day 58

Inhaling and exhaling a rhythm set by God.  How beautifully said.

What keeps us from enjoying rhythm set by God?

Busy feet. Busy mouths. Honoring self rather than God. Yes, that pretty much sums up the poetic words of the prophetic Isaiah.

We can go trace God’s rhythm all the way back to Genesis. God worked for six days and rested on the seventh.  If it was good enough for God, the Creator, it should be good enough for doers, achievers, maximizers, and multi-taskers like me and you.

To our great disappointment,  joy is not found in doing more:  folding the last load, vacuuming one more room, or quickly dusting the dust bunnies.  No.  According to Isaiah, slowing our busy feet, shutting our busy mouths, and thinking more of God than we do ourselves is where we will find joy.

We can take a nap on Sunday and not feel guilty. We can sit outside to enjoy the creation He created. We can take time to read book, especially His book.

Ecclesiastes 3:3-8
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
