He can Make Me Glad

Day 31

Remember Pollyanna?  She was the  little girl who went to live with her bitter spinster aunt and taught everyone in the town how to be glad. Even her aunt turned her frown upside down.  Pollyanna played “The Glad Game.” The object is to think of something that makes you glad when you are sad, then you won’t be sad anymore.

The apostle offered his own version of the  “Glad game” in his letter to the church of Philippi.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” Phil 4:8 (The Message)

Is this easy? No. But praise confuses the enemy while simultaneously redirects our thinking. We are able to give such a response  by tapping into the divine nature imparted to us through the Holy Spirit. Anything you do for 30 days become a habit. What does feel natural soon will be.

I wonder if we could change our town like Pollyana.  Today, smile and compliment the teller at bank. Say something kind to student at the drive-thru window. Hold the door for senior adult even through she is walking slow and you are running late.

Let’s go change our town.
