Does Failure Want To Define You?

Me, too!

For years I surrendered to  the false narrative: I wasn’t good enough,  smart enough, or capable enough to accomplish anything worthwhile for the Kingdom of God. Comparison stole my confidence.

Can you relate?

I know this why God gave me the amazing opportunity to work with Him to write Hidden Potential. Finally, the false narrative would be silenced… well for the most part. Studying the life of Moses blessed me tremendously and equipped me with the tools necessary to accept who I am in Christ. I finally believe I am a worthwhile possibility, full of potential.

It’s an honor to partner with P31 to bring the message of Hidden Potential to you through OBS. Today I’m giving away a signed copy of Hidden Potential as well as a Worthwhile Possibility necklace. What a great way to help us remember that failure doesn’t define us, that we are worthwhile, than wearing a beautiful sterling silver necklace.

We are selecting one winner, but anyone can purchase the necklace by following this link. Worthwhile Possibility Necklace

We are going to have so much fun, and learn some amazing truths through OBS. I can’t wait to get started! Here’s where you can register: Hidden Potential OBS

  1. Thank you for the encouragement!
It’s so true what you wrote in the devotional. We live in a competitive world, and from the early on we are trained to deliver results and are assessed on them thru grades or honors, then at work and in life. I think people’s words and opinions of us are much louder than God’s whispers of truth to us about who we really are. And eventually we believe more what the world says or how it “grades” us.
I work in a highly competitive workplace. When others keep on advancing careerwise and I work just as hard without any obvious progress, it’s easy to slip into thinking “failure”. Or when a relationship doesn’t workout- makes me feel like a failure.
I’m sure many of us can relate to your message in the book.
Looking forward to the OBS! 🙂

  2. This is great timing for this word. For the past three months I have felt like such a failure at being a full-time employee and homeschool mom. It’s wonderful to be reminded that God sees me and my son in a different light than I feared. Thank you Wendy.

  3. Thank you for this devotional today. It is a confirmation of what the LORD has been telling me recently. He said, Never disqualify yourself. By His grace, I’m beginning to believe Christ in me is my potential and my worthiness. I hope I win the book so I can participate in the study.

  4. Thank you for this opportunity! It’s true when skies are blue and clouds are ponies I’m great at seeing that God defines me. I’m ready to know that in the dark days as opposed to believing everyone else.

  5. Thank you for this devotion today. I am looking forward to reading your book and would love to win a copy.

  6. Please pray for me and my family. I recently lost my job and I’m struggling with feeling like a failure.

  7. Thank you for your eye opening devotion today. It really spoke to me and my struggles.
I would love to win the book and necklace!
    Thanks!

  8. Thank you for the devotion today. This is something I have been wrestling with a lot lately. It is such an encouragement to remember what God’s word says about me though. Thank you!

  9. Hi Wendy,

I miss the OBS through proverbs 31 ministries. I read and meditate on Scripture every day and for some reason I cannot retain what I read.
The studies help me a lot.

Please keep me and my cat in your prayers. I have some kind of kidney infection or kidney stones. Took rescue to the hospital Saturday at 2 am. Need to wait to get antibiotic until Wednesday. In the meantime, it feels like I’m getting punched in my side. They didn’t see stones although I urinated a blood clot last Saturday.
    Worse pain ever.

My cats mouth has been bleeding.
Vet I saw thinks it could be cancer in his mouth. He needs pain medication and to see a soft tissue surgeon. I’m devastated. We need a miracle healing or the finances to pay for his care for healing.

I hate not being able to afford basic necessities for life.

    1. I hear you on the finances. I have had a lot of bladder infections in my life time. Cranberry juice has helped me but I know kidney infections are different. I also have a cat that my daughter rescued under a dumpster. He was so tiny and skinny he could barely meow. I named him miracle. One time my parents were struggling to pay medical Bill’s and I prayed and asked God to send them a check to help pay for their Bill’s. A friend of theirs made more money on his farm than ever before and felt lead to send them a check. Keep praying God will help provide. It may not be in a check like my parents but he will make a way when there seems to be no way. I am praying for you today!

      1. Thank you, Christy for taking the time to write and pray for us. It means a lot to me.

        The LORD bless you.
        June

  10. Thank you for your words through this devotion to remember my identity in Christ.

  11. Yes! Such a good reminder that God defined us, and that He can use us exactly where we are today. I often look at things and wonder, just how much I’ve messed them up, but God comes along saying “I’ve got thing exactly as I want them, so that I can work through you!”.

  12. Thank you for that devotional. I could really use that book. I struggled in school and always felt like I was stupid. I have since learned that just because I got held back one grade does not make me stupid. I believe that now, but my lack of self confidence keeps me from applying for bigger and better jobs because I am a slow learner and I am afraid iI can’t do it, or people will think I am stupid if I don’t learn as quickly as others. I want to share this book with my sister as well who feels the same way I do.

  13. Thank you for this! I can relate, and I am excited to participate in this study- loved Wait and See- came at just the right time, and this one has as well. God is good! Happy to be a fellow ‘Wendi’! (haven’t taken the chance to tell you how awesome is your hair cut!)

  14. This devotion is just what I needed to hear today for me personally and a much needed reminder I need to share with my daughter ❤️ Thanks for allowing God to work in your life and sharing with us.

  15. I have and continue to struggle with feeling worthy. I feel that I left some special people in my life down and can’t seem to get past that. Some have already gone to heaven and I know with my head that I can’t do things over and I also know that God has forgiven me but I wrestle with still feeling guilty. Satan is alive and is constantly trying to bring us down but God is greater! Your book sounds like it could be helpful for me to get out of constant relapse. Thank you.

  16. I have been struggling so much in the last few years, failure seems to be at the heart of my issues most of the time. Trusting is so hard and with my past circumstances I struggle to do that. I deep down feel like my life is in a constant spiral downward and I’m having such a hard time digging out. I continually ask God to help me to trust and to see his promises in my life. I ask Him to open my eyes to see His truths.
This looks like a very helpful book and study – thank you for following God’s leading and writing it!

  17. Thank you for the reminder that being a child of God defines who I am, not my failures or successes!

  18. Failure has defined me for many years. I cant seem to overcome it. I know with my mind all that God says about me – but my heart almost constantly condemns me. I long to walk in His love and freedom

  19. Thanks for sharing! Your devotional holds in depth meaning. I’m embracing and holding true to,”I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” I look forward to the study!

  20. This devotion touched my heart. I lost my job just before the pandemic and trying to get one now seems hopeless. I fell like a failure on that front. But yet the Lord has used this time to draw me closer to him. What an opportunity that I never would have had. Thank you for the reminder that to the Lord, we aren’t failures.

  21. My marriage is pretty much over (although nothing is legal or finalized) & I’m left with a broken heart, still DESPERATELY in love with my husband & raising 3 kids by myself. NOT what I had pictured for my life. The word “failure” definitely hits close to home.

  22. I am looking forward to this online Bible study. We need to see ourselves as cherished and loved in the Lord’s eyes instead of a failure through the eyes of the world. Each one of us is so precious!

  23. I love reading your words that God can take my messes and make them work for my good and His glory! Knowing that I don’t have the power to change His plans for me gives me the confidence to step out in obedience and faith! Great devotion today!

  24. Thank you for your encouragement. It was much needed. I continue to be defined by my past and even more so, my current failures. I continuously wait for perfection because I feel I have let God down and He can’t use me when I am not at my best. It was refreshing to read your devotion today and get a new found sense of not defining myself by my failures but using them as stepping stones to the promises God has setup for me.

  25. this is true especially in these uncertain times.thank you for reminding us at the end of the day . Im a child of the one true king he defines me

  26. Loved this devotional. There isn’t a person alive who can’t identify with failure at some point in their lives (maybe too many times! ). Thank you for showing us that our failures do not overcome us, not while God is on our side!

  27. This would be such a great read! I’m putting it on my list 🙂
Thanks for a chance to win this small necklace that packs a powerful message!

  28. Just catching up on emails and saw the book and the study! Definitely going to dig into it more!

  29. Hello. I have my book and am all signed up. Looking forward to what God has for me. If I happen to win the book please give it to someone who needs it. Thank you

  30. Thank you so much for these inspiring words. Can’t wait to start and follow along with my girls to discover our true hidden potential and learn how to fight of fears and learn to trust and grow in our faith. Thank you for helping us learn how to discover our true hidden potentials.

  31. Thank you so much for this devotional today! I so needed to hear this. I am the queen of self doubt and lack of self confidence.
