The New Thing
But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I’m going to do! For I’m going to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Don’t you see it? I will make a road through the wilderness of the world for my people to go home, and create rivers for them in the desert! Isaiah 43:18-19 (TLB)
Forget what?
Isaiah foretells of the impending Babylonian captivity of God’s people. In the beginning of chapter forty-three he reminds the people of all the wonderfully amazing things God had previously done. Then, in verse eighteen, he tells them to forget all that. Why would God tell them to forget all His previous miraculous acts? The rest of verse eighteen and verse nineteen answers the question for us.
They can basically be translated as, “You think that was something? Well, it ain’t nothin’ compared to what I am going to do!”
Today, spend some time recalling all the wonderfully amazing things God has done for you. Perhaps say them out loud, or write them down. Then say to God, “That’s nothing compared to what you will do. I trust you to redeem all that has been lost. I believe you will make a way in the wilderness.”
Oh friends, if He redeemed all the Israelites lost (which He did, read Nehemiah), then, He can do it for you and me. I’m believing God to be the Redeemer of all things lost, broken, left out, unfinished, and hurt during this time of pandemic. Will you join me in believing?
