Know The Scriptures

Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God.'”
Matthew 4:7

My Takeaways

Something Old

About testing/temptation:

  • Temptation is not always from Satan.
  • Tested/temptation allows you to witness His power.
  • Our testing will reveal God’s character as well as our character. The only way to resist temptation is to know what the Scriptures say.
  • We must be prepared for the test. Satan knows what the Scripture says, so we must also.

Something New

Sometimes the Spirit leads us unto an unexpected experience, so we can experience His unexpected power in us.

Something to Do

Know what the scriptures say.

  1. How can you recognize a “Scripture Twister”? Know God’s Word!!

Scripture and, specifically, RTW, pulled me out of a very dangerous church this past year. I am so very thankful for this ministry and especially God’s Word! The devil knows Scripture and loves to twist it and use it out of context. He will even use “preachers” to do so, so that even the elect will be deceived. It is so important for us to be Berean’s and line up what preachers and teachers say against God’s Word…

A few things I learned from Guzik’s commentary:

“under the fig tree” is a term Rabbi’s used to describe meditation on the Scriptures!
“Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” – Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of the OT sacrificial lamb (this I knew) … but this statement from John the Baptist was the announcement that Jesus would die!

I know so many Christians who blame the devil for everything bad, every trial, etc. They don’t recognize the Sovereignty of God ….
