They Came To Worship
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.
Matthew 2:11a
My Takeaways
Something Old
- Do I ever come to Jesus just to worship?
- Do I worship with only words or also in posture?
- How far would I travel to worship God? From my bed to my knees. From my bed to my prayer place… quiet time chair.
Something New
I love this: “A stir begins as soon as Christ is born. He has not spoken a word; he has not wrought a miracle; he has not proclaimed a single doctrine; but ‘when Jesus was born,’ at the very first, while as yet you hear nothing but infant cries, and can see nothing but infant weakness, still his influence upon the world is manifest. ‘When Jesus was born, there came wise men from the east,’ and so on. There is infinite power even in an infant Savior.” (Spurgeon)
Something to Do
Wow – that Spurgeon quote is powerful!
Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people (Luke 2:52)
Well, if Jesus had to grow in wisdom and favor with God and all the people, what makes me think that my sanctification process should be immediate!!??!! This verse gives me much hope today.
“In baptism, He confessed, as His own, sins which he had not committed, and repented of them before God. He was numbered with the transgressors and bore the sins of many” (Morgan)
I had been singing the song Wendy posted for the lesson this morning – before starting the lesson. How cool is that!!??
My posture this morning, thanks to the conviction of the Holy Spirit through today’s reading/lesson, was to get on my knees, on the dirty floor of this apartment I rented, and praise God, thanking Him for the work that He is doing in me to conform me more into His image. I even prayed for my landlord who has been super difficult …. bless her Lord, bless her! This is a heart posture that is new for me …. only by the work of the Holy Spirit.
