Unhappy Haman
Haman was happy as he left the banquet! But when he saw Mordecai sitting at the palace gate, not standing up or trembling nervously before him, Haman become furious.
Esther 5:9
My Takeaways
Something Old
In an instant Haman went from happy to furious.
Haman wanted honor, recognition, and position. He assumed that happiness and fulfillment came from what the world offers.
“The soul was made for God, and nothing but God can fill it and make it happy.” (Clarke)
Get over it, or die mad. I don’t want to meet Jesus mad.
“God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in him.” John Piper
- In what am I most satisfied?
- With what do I fill my soul?
- Who do I allow to steal my happy?
If my happy can be stolen quickly, am I really happy?
Something New
Esther asking for Haman’s sons to be impaled seems extreme. (Esther 9:13)
Something to Do
Seek for satisfaction and true joy in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit only.
I think I have allowed my happy to be stolen a lot over the last few years, but I do not allow the joy of the Lord to be questioned. People are rude, self centered and enjoy living in the present. (And I am talking Christians)..but since I also have faults, well…I can’t judge, but rather keep on seeking what it is that I am called to be in the Lord. It has put me in an unhealthy place, though and I am totally dependent on God to show me how to heal…
I thought it was interesting that people became Jews, so that they wouldn’t be attacked by the Jews. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em????
I never want to skip the videos. I always feel, when i do, that I’ve missed something. I think the video teaching brings life to the reading.
