Would Have Hads And Would Have Beens

Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.
Isaiah 48:18

My Takeaways

Something Old

I have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering. Isaiah 48:10

Suffering is refiner.

Something New

Missing Our Potential

  • present but not yet visible, apparent, or actualized excellence or ability that may or may not be developed.
  • possible, as opposed to actual:
  • someone or something that is considered a worthwhile possibility

When we don’t listen (paid attention to…) to God’s commands we miss:

  • Peace (Isaiah 48:18)
  • Righteous (Isaiah 48:18)
  • Blessings (Isaiah 48:19)
  • Our potential

It’s just not worth not listening.

Something to Do

Don’t forfeit my potential.

  1. I saw many prophecies today referring to the coming Messiah-Jesus. Isaiah 48:1-5 and Isaiah 50:4-9. Notice verse 6 ” he says you will do more than restore the people of Israel to me I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the Earth.” Lots of people think this is the great commission of the Old Testament. Paul and Barnabas quote this verse in Acts 13:47.

Isaiah 59: 10-11, not all darkness is sinned based, sometimes it’s just God trying to wean me from trusting my emotions to walk with God by faith, giving me a chance to mature my faith. I will eventually receive guidance and peace as I wait on the Lord so my job is to continue to honor God even during those times when I don’t always hear from him in the way I think I should.

The best part of today’s reading for me were the words. Yet even now in Isaiah 48:20. He loves me. He has redeemed me and He has made a day for me to be right with Him, EVEN NOW!
