The Melting Of Me

I will raise my fist against you. I will melt you down and skim off your slag. I will remove all your impurities.
Isaiah 1:25

My Takeaways

Something Old

See how Jerusalem, once so faithful has become a prostitute. Isaiah 1:21

I shudder when I replace Jerusalem with my name. Oh, forgive me for ever prostituting myself to other gods. There is no God like you!

Something New

The Silversmith

  • Recognizes the potential.
  • Knows the value.
  • Desires the highest quality.

He has to turn up the heat to do that.

  • Impurities come up from within, to the top, then are remove. The impurities can’t be found without being in the heat.
  • Around 1700 °F
  • The temperature has to be right or he will ruin the silver. (too much heat ruins, not enough does not remove the impurities.)
  • To remove the impurities takes skill, precision and care.

Something to Do

Let the expert do His work. It is for my good and purification that will make me more like my Father.

  1. Turn up the heat, LORD. Refine me in the fire. So many impurities in me that need to be removed!

“What more could I have done for my vineyard that I have not already done? When I expected sweet grapes, why did my vineyard give me bitter grapes?” Isaiah 5:4

I love what Spurgeon says about this passage:

“Has it been so with us? Have we rewarded the Wellbeloved thus ungratefully for all his pains. Have we given Him hardness of heart, instead of repentance; unbelief instead of faith; indifference instead of love; idleness, instead of holy industry; impurity instead of holiness”.

What have I done – what am I doing – with God’s grace? What is the reward of His suffering? Have I received His grace in vain? Am I taking it for granted? Oh, sadly, I feel I do.

  2. Awesome lesson Wendy!! Thank you so much!!

I was really convicted with the passage “A warning for Jerusalem’s Women”. It was a needed reminder about materialism and discontent.
