The Safest Place To Build

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.”
Isaiah 28:16

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Test/Tried (Jesus was tried and tested… proven to be perfect and obedient.)
We can build knowing He identifies with everything we will ever experience.
  • Firm (Jesus couldn’t be moved.)
We can build without reservation or fear.
  • Precious (Jesus was God’s only Son. That makes Him precious)
We can build confidently knowing His sacrificed His own life for us.
  • Cornerstone (Jesus was pure and set the standard for living.)
We can build with security that He will direct the best plan for our lives.

Something New

What warnings has God graciously sent that have stubbornly ignored? 2 Kings 17:13

Something to Do

Worship my Cornerstone.

  1. “Listen to me; listen and pay close attention … The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is a wonderful teacher and he gives the farmer great wisdom” (Isaiah 28:23, 29) Who/what am I listening to? Who/what am I following?

The Israelites were exiled – because “They refused to listen to the LORD their God and obey him” (2 Kings: 18:10-12)

“They worshiped idols despite the LORD’s specific and repeated warnings” (2 Kings 17:12) The Lord specifically warned them and yet they continued to do their own thing

“But the Israelites would not listen. They were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to believe in the Lord their God” (2 Kings 17:14)…. Hmmm the willingness to listen comes from belief in who God is??? Pondering this one…. not sure if I’m interpreting it correctly.

“But even the people of Judah refused to obey the commands of the LORD their God, for they followed the evil practices that Israel had introduced” (2 Kings 17:9) They didn’t listen to/obey the commands of the Lord – but followed man.

“But the people would not listen and continue to follow their former practices … they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same” (2 Kings 17:40;41(b)) Not listening to the Lord’s commands and being in his word can cause us to mix in a little “extra” with our worship (idols) … This is still going on today. New Age being mixed in with Christianity – a “mashup” of sorts. I’ve been part of this myself and Praise the Lord He delivered me!

“But if you turn away and refuse to listen, you will be devoured by the sword of your enemies” (Isaiah 1:20) YIKES!

To Do: Pay attention to what/who I am listening to and following. Listen for the Lord’s voice through reading His Word.

  2. -Thank God that because of Jesus my sins are white as snow.
-Thank God for His precious cornerstone, Jesus. Whoever believes need never be shaken!
-What other gods am I worshiping?

  3. This is a powerful reading! Isn’t Isaiah’s prophecy foretelling Jesus amazing?! Hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth they were told of the precious cornerstone.

I also love Isaiah 1:16-20 (reminds me a little of the verses in Micah). Tells All of us how to live… Wash and be clean. Give up evil. Do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend orphans and widows. The Lord will make us white as snow. If only we will obey Him… (my paraphrase)
We don’t need showy sacrifices and celebrations. We only need to trust and obey.

  4. I am on Wendy’s Facebook page, but can’t seem to find the Read Through the Word page–can someone help me find that? Thanks!

    1. Hi. Are you already a member or looking to join? It’s under Read Thru The Word. I tried to capture a picture but it won’t let me attach here.

      1. Thank you! I was looking to join the FB group. I was spelling Through instead of Thru. I think I added to it now. Appreciate it!
