Why And When Do I Obey?
But Jehu did not obey the Law of the LORD, the God Israel, with all his heart. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit.
2 Kings 10:31
My Takeaways
Something Old
- What or who I am following with all my heart?
- Do I obey only when it is good for me?
- What is my hesitation to obedience?
- Are there limits to my obedience?
Something New
All this happened because Jehoram abandoned the LORD… 2 Chronicles 21:10b
What has happened in my life because of the times I abandoned the LORD?
Something to Do
The why and when don’t matter when it comes to obedience. If God says, then I say, “Yes.”
One of the things that stood out to me in today’s reading has to do with the legacy or life summary of some of the kings.
It says no one was sorry when Jehoram died. I do not want that to be my legacy. What am I doing in my life that will keep that from happening?
It says that Jehoshaphat was a man who sought the LORD with all his heart. I would like to be remembered in this way. What am I doing towards this end?
And as Wendy has in her notes, Jehu did not obey the Law of the LORD. Again, I don’t want this to be said of me.
It struck me today how young some of the men were when they became kings.
I found it interesting that the temple of Baal was wrecked and converted to a toilet. Quite the commentary on how God feels about the worship of false gods!
I also noticed the verse “Then the Lord stirred up the Philistines and the Arabs…to attack…” The Lord can stir up trouble for me!
Wendy, I am a huge Blue Bloods fan! My all-time favorite show, and I don’t watch much TV. But my Friday nights are made with this family and its jobs and morals!
