Am I A Waverer?

The Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him! But if Baal is God the follow him!” But the people were completely silent.
1 Kings 18:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

Am I fettered to the opinions of others?

They make me walk awkwardly and progress unevenly.

They make me limp along.

When I stand on the opinions of God, the rains will come: growth, fruit and progress.

Something New

“For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the LORD sends rain and the crops grow again!” 1 Kings 17:14

When we obey God, we will always have enough “oil” and “flour.”

Something to Do

Stand only on the opinions and teachings of God.

  1. “So he went to Zarephath” 17:10
“So Elijah went to appear before Ahab” 18:2
God said “go” and Elijah WENT.

Am I the only one who gets a kick out of how Elijah makes fun of Baal? I read God’s Word out loud (a benefit of living alone – I can read out loud at 4am!) and I always read this part with a big dose of sarcasm! LOL

The prophets cut themselves “until the blood gushed out” – Baal required the blood of many men and he still didn’t come through. And then I started thinking …. for us, the blood of one Man was sufficient.

The same verse stood out to me today as well – And I was thinking about how even those who claim to be Christians can so easily waver and hobble between two worlds – and how many even incorporate worldly practices (even some new age practices) into their lives – perhaps it’s because I’m still so fresh and raw from a church that did this but it really seems that so many do this and it makes me so sad. God is ENOUGH!

Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done and it did not change her heart. This is truly a hardened heart.

God is in the smallest whisper as much as in the huge shouts.

Elisha was willing to – and did – leave everything behind to follow God.

To Do: Don’t be tossed back and forth between the world and the Word.
