Faithful Service
And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service all the house of the LORD.
1 Chronicles 23:32
My Takeaways
Something Old
- He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John 3:30
- So, let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. Galatians 6:9-10
- Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Philippians 2:3
- And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17
Something New
Even though David couldn’t build the Temple, he kept preparing for the building.
Something to do
Serve faithfully, even when times and people get tough.
Good morning! I didn’t have a lot today except that my something old was knowing the Levites were well structured and ordered for service, but (something new) how much David planned and especially organized them, and that was an age requirement and registration.
I think it is nice to reflect on all the duties they performed and how they were trained to do them with a sense of humble sharing in them. Everyone’s tasks matter.
Something to do: be more thankful and appreciative of those around me that do acts of service, even when it is not in church, and remember everyone’s work matters. So, I will thank God for them and say thank you to someone today.
Good morning Melissa! Love your “to do” for today.
Your To Do really spoke to me today. I like how you turned it around to thanking those who serve.
Good morning, not a lot of time to share after reading but what stood out to me was 1 Chronicles 23:14 where it said “As for Moses, the man of God” – it made me think how I want to be a woman of God, not a woman that follows the world’s way of being. I pray that God would create in me a heart that faithfully serves him, like all the people we read about today.
That’s a nice thought, Elizabeth!
—Our God does not show favoritism. The tasks of the priests were assigned “by means of sacred lots so that no preference would be shown”. (1 Chronicles 24:5)
—Our God is a God of order.
—Serve God faithfully in all the tasks I have before me each day. Just a side note: So many times when Wednesday evening rolls around, I don’t feel like going to church for choir practice. However, once I get in the car and get going, I never regret it and am so thankful that I went once it’s over and I’m on my way home.
—As noted by MelissaCD above, thank those who faithfully serve me. Be on the lookout for someone to thank today.
Thanks Wendy. Your message was a good reminder and very encouraging to me in my present circumstances. May God bless you today.
I found it great that the musicians and singers were appointed in much the same way as the priest and also the keepers of the gates everyone and every job is important!
