The S’s Of Waiting

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from the Him.
Psalm 62:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

I wonder how many psalms and songs David wrote about waiting.

Something New

Dumiyyah: (doo-me-yaw’) – Psalm 62:1

still waiting, resignation: repose

Repose

  • Being at rest and peace; sleep

Resignation

  • an accepting, unresisting attitude, state, etc.; submission; acquiescence:

Acquiescence

  • agreement or consent by silence or without objection; compliance

damam (daw-man’) – Psalm 62:5

  • still in speech and motion

In one word, in two verses, we learn to be:

  • Still
  • Submitted
  • Silence

Something to Do

Sit. Submit. Shut up. (This is my personal to do friends. I know my own mouth and have to talk firmly to myself sometimes. LOL)

  1. Wow! What a fantastic lesson on waiting – thank you Wendy. I love how you share your own challenges – I, too, am challenged with a wandering mind during my quiet time with the Lord so nice to know I’m not alone – and I can now stop condemning myself for this 🙂

Psalm 61:2: “Lead me to the towering rock of safety.” Jesus is our towering rock of safety and when we ask, He will lead us, draw us, to Himself. “On Christ the solid rock I stand – all other ground is sinking sand”

Psalm 61:10: “and if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life”. I have been struggling because I received a job offer at a new company (thanks for your prayers everyone) and it is A LOT more money – and part of me was feeling wrong, or guilty for seeking more money (coming out of a prosperity gospel culture where I was taught that I deserved more of everything for myself), asking the Lord if it is wrong. This verse was God’s perfect answer. And Guzik’s commentary really helped “It’s possible to hold great wealth without trusting in those riches, but it isn’t easy” So, to paraphrase the rest of his commentary on this subject:

    – don’t take excessive pleasure in riches or make them the source of joy for life – CHECK

    – don’t place one’s hope & security in riches – CHECK

    – don’t grow proud and arrogant because of riches – CHECK

Oh how wonderful it will be to have additional $$$ to sow into the Kingdom!

Psalm 65: “The river of God has plenty of water” God’s provision, God’s love, God’s mercy, God himself, will never run out …. He is endless!

Psalm 66:16: “I will tell you what he did for me” Tell the world what God has done for me (I struggle with courage in unabashedly sharing the Gospel with everyone. Pray for strength for me please as I seek to share with family members and other loved ones) and

66:18: “If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened” Stay confessed up – ask the Lord to search me and reveal the hidden sins (of which there are many) in my heart.

Psalm 67:5: May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. It is God’s will for people of every tribe and tongue to praise Him – to know Him. It is His will that NONE should perish. But people ARE perishing. People don’t know Him – people right here in this country, my town, my neighborhood. Who is perishing today that needs to hear what God has done for me? Gosh, I want to get better at this, braver, bolder…

  2. Good Morning! Great lesson Wendy! I need to follow the same instruction in my own life.
The verse that God brought me to this morning was Psalm 66:17-20. I looked it up in some different translations and I like how the Amplified has verse 18- “If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it], The Lord will not hear [me];”
‭‭PSALMS‬ ‭66:18‬ ‭AMP‬‬ So, my to do is if I know there is some sin there in my heart, don’t ignore it. Don’t hide it from God, feeling embarrassed or ashamed. Bring it to God openly and confess it. Then He and I can do something about it.
