RTW April 25

The Suspicion of Kindness

David said, “I am going to show loyalty to Hanun just as his father, Nahash, was always loyal to me.”
2 Samuel 10:2a

My Takeaways

Something Old

The war broke out because of suspicion.

About kindness:

  • Kindness surprises people.
  • Kindness may be met with indifference, hostility, or retaliation.
  • Kindness is never wrong, no matter how it is met.

Something New

To humiliate the king’s army is to humiliate the king himself.

Something to Do

Be kind to someone who doesn’t expect it… suspicion can be a little fun.

  1. —I was struck by David’s integrity in doing what was right and just for all his people and by his loyalty to his friend Jonathan by showing kindness to Jonathan’s son.
—Be on the lookout for someone to be kind to today.
—I had never noticed before that Mephibosheth had son. His name was Mica.
—In the past I have kind of glossed over the names of the music leaders. Since being in our church choir this year, they have become more meaningful to me as I am more aware of their service in this way.

  2. Joab and Abishai were brothers and soldiers in Davids army. They helped each other out. They were loyal to David as well as to each other. Also encouraged each other.
2 Samuel 10: 11 I also need to be more of an encourager, a helper and loyal to the church I belong too.
