Ruler Over It All

Then Abner said to David, “Let me go and call an assembly of all Israel to support my lord the king. They will make a covenant with you to make you their king, and you will rule over everything your heart desires.” So David sent Abner safely on his way.
2 Samuel 3:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

I hate that Saul’s daughter, Michal, is used as a pawn. (2 Sam.3:14) This whole scene is heartbreaking.

Something New

Again, we see David’s restraint in the wait. He didn’t overtake Israel. He waited for an invitation.

Ab nare (Abner)

It is significant that this word came from Abner regarding David instead of coming from David himself. Though he was the rightful king, David would not reign over Israel until they submitted to him freely. He never moved an inch without an invitation.

This is an illustration of Jesus’ lordship in our life. He is in fact King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But He chooses (for the most part) to exercise His sovereignty only at our invitation.

  • Some do not invite Jesus to rule over anything.
  • Some invite Jesus to reign over a small area – like “Hebron.”
  • Some give Jesus reign over everything. He has authority over – which is everything.

Guzik 2 Samuel 3

Something To Do

Invite God and Jesus to rule every part of me.

  1. Happy Easter my friends!

He is Risen! Just as He said he would!

Praise His Holy name! Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!

All mighty and powerful Savior whose blood was shed for us!

When I see that Cross I see freedom!
When I see that grave I see Jesus!
And death to life I will sing your praise!

  2. Many years ago, I had the privilege of getting to know a young (23) woman who was full of energy, and would say “I had to ask my best friend God…”
One day she gave her fiancé an Easter card, that said “Have a great day with your family and a wonderful life with Christ!” She was struck by a car the next day while riding her bike and was killed. The Easter card was part of her funeral program.
I always remember her vigor and love for God, her best friend!

  3. My hearts desire is to surrender every part of me to the Lord. I am desperately aware that I can not control anything in my life, I trust Him and I invite Him to reign here!

Have It All – Bethel Music

You can have it all, Lord
    Every part of my world
Take this life and breathe on
This heart that is now Yours

You can have it all, Lord
    Every part of my world
Take this life and breathe on
This heart that is now Yours

    Oh, the joy I’ve found
    Surrendering my crowns
At the feet of the King
    Who surrendered everything
And all the peace that comes
    When I’m broken and undone
    By Your unfailing grace
I can lift my voice and say

You can have it all, Lord
    Every part of my world
Take this life and breathe on
This heart that is now Yours
    There is no greater call
    Than giving You my all
    I lay it all down
    I lay it all down
    There is no greater love
    No higher name above
    I lay it all down
    I lay it all down

You can have it all, Lord
    Every part of my world
Take this life and breathe on
This heart that is now Yours
