Perpetual Victory
You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.
Joshua 7:13c
My Takeaways
Something Old
We were meant for perpetual victory, but until we remove the hidden things, we will live in perpetual defeat.
- But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (ESV) 1 Corinthians 15:57
- For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity. (ESV) Proverbs 24:16
- But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. (ESV)
2 Corinthians 2:14
We can’t keep things hidden from God.
- Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. (ESV) Proverbs 28:13
- Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit, there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. (ESV) Psalm 32:2-5
When we confess, Satan loses his grip on our minds, actions, and attitudes.
- For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
- For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (NIV) Ephesians 6:12
Pray this…
- God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about. See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—then guide me on the road to eternal life. (Message) Psalm 139:1; 23-24
Something New
They did not consult God before making an agreement with the Gibeonites. What haven’t I consulted the Lord concerning? Joshua 9:14
Something to Do
Live in victory!!!
Good morning ladies. Here’s my dilemma: my messed up mind! I had highlighted The same verse Wendy’s lesson was on. I love what she said “we were meant for perpetual victory but until we remove the hidden things, we will live in perpetual defeat.“ This is where I have camped-perpetual defeat. Most days I just don’t have a clue-I am so out of touch with myself And so afraid to let God dig deep. The enemy tells me it’s impossible for me to be free. He wants to keep me in bondage. And yet, to be completely honest, I don’t see a way out. Wendy’s comments about the enemy keeping me messed up in my mind which allows him to keep the word of God from getting into my heart really hit me. I’ve struggled so much in the word even I see all the gems and insight you all have and more often Than not I come up completely dry and get discouraged and allow the enemy to tell me I will never “get it”. I’ve listened to his voice for the entire 6 years since I was saved. It’s persistent and nagging.
This lesson is giving me hope. Please pray for discernment and wisdom and ability to see my son and confess it. I am going to start praying psalm 139 verses Wendy gave us.
Thank you,
Mary
Praying for you! Satan wants to keep you in defeat but you have victory in Christ! Keep pressing on in His Word it will not return void!
Dear Mary,
Don’t lose heart! The good news is that you are listening! The problem is you are listening to the wrong voice! I passed a church sign yesterday that said, “When Satan comes knocking, say ‘Jesus, can You get that?’” ☺️
Hebrews 11:6 comes to mind – God rewards those who seek Him. When you sit down to be read the Word, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply what you are about to read. Imagine that Jesus is sitting right there with you, lovingly ready to defend you, protect you, and impart truth to you. Your fear about letting God dig deeper? That fear is not from God! He is gentle and kind, a good, good Father, and will tenderly help you address things that may come up as you read.
Don’t listen to the enemy when he says you’ll never “get it.” That’s just a lie. As you continue this Bible study, you are, indeed, “getting it”! God says His Word goes out and never returns without accomplishing what He meant it to do. See Isaiah 55:11 and Colossians 1:6. Believe that the Word is at work in you.
And all the comments you read – those are teaching tools too! Keep reading them, keep learning from them. When you read the day’s portion of Scripture, ask God to give you your own “nugget.” If nothing strikes you, (and I bet that happens to everyone, so comparing yourself to others is not allowed!) listen and learn from Wendy’s teaching and whatever the comments say. There is no condemnation in that, and in fact, there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)
Mary, you have a hunger and a heart for God. He delights in you and I can see His big, wide smile as you open His Word.
Have a blessed day basking in His unfailing love for you,
Val
Amen Val! Mary, every word she wrote is so true! You are being faithful to God in your commitment to Him and to reading His word. It will not return void! Ask God to give you eyes to see and ears to hear every single time you read His word. Ask him for the wisdom he wants you to understand, ask him to help you understand, no one understands it all. Those are prayers and desires he loves to answer my friend. Discouragement is from the enemy, you will not camp out there because you have too much to look forward to in Christ! We are all praying for you and I know we are all in agreement that your breakthrough is but a breathe away! ❤️
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I am encouraged. Bless you all! I am hopeful. And continuing and FINISHING this study is my goal. Through it I will grow closer to Him. Know Him better. Much love and blessings to you all.
The battle is real, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).
The battle was real for Joshua, the “High Priest”! In Zechariah 3 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him..
Satan is braisingly bold, he doesn’t care what your position, title, religious status, male or female, homemaker, in ministry, he is there to oppose and accuse you.
Daniel 7:25 He (Satan) will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Most High.
I don’t know how many times I have been told “know your enemy”, he comes to steal, kill and destroy.
Isaiah 14:27 All the forces of darkness cannot stop what God has ordained.
We must remember the battle belongs to the Lord!!
And also that the battle has already been won! The devil wants us to believe he has power but he only has the power we allow him to have in our lives! Speak God’s word and he will flee! Mary, speak it every time you feel discouraged, say it loud, “Get behind thee satan!” By the power I have been given in Christ Jesus, I command you to flee in Jesus name! And he will Mary, he will flee, he can’t be around God’s word. Put on K-Love and listen to worship music all day if you can. Play it softly at home continuously, play it in your car, and play it at work if you can. Just blast that sneaky devil right out of your thoughts! He isn’t welcome anymore!!
I added comments below to others Mary, but the 1st thing I want you to do is stop talking negatively about yourself, you don’t have a “messed up mind”, that’s a lie the enemy has you believing! Can you choose a mantra of truth that you can declare every day over and over until you believe it? Something like…
“I am a child of God!”
“I have a sound mind!”
“I am who He says I am!”
“I am not a captive to the lies!”
“I am FORGIVEN, SET FREE and LOVED!”
“I was made for this!”
“I have the mind of Christ!”
“I am a daughter of the Most High King!”
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
You have the mind of Christ!
1 Corinthians 2:16
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7
One thing that helps me is reading the devotional, “Jesus Calling”, by Sarah Young. The readings are beautiful. It’s as if Jesus, himself is speaking each daily reading directly to your heart.
Sit down and read it whenever the ‘negative’ voice rears its ugly head.
I love this devotional too! It IS like Jesus is speaking directly to you. And there is an app, which does make it VERY easy to read each day wherever you are.
