When We Are at Flood Stage

It was harvest season, and the Jordan was overflowing its banks. But…
Joshua 3:15

My Takeaways

Something Old

Sometimes God wants us to cross our Jordan during the flood stage.

When it’s “the season”

  • the child still hasn’t returned.
  • the proposal still hasn’t come.
  • the cancer returns.
  • the job ends and the mortgage is due.
  • the marriage ends anyway.

When everything seems impossible…

  • it is there when He can get the glory.
  • it is there when I can’t steal the credit.
  • it is there when our memorial can be made from a place of trust, rather than victory.

God often does His greatest miracles when the waters of life are at flood stage.

Something New

I wonder how long it took for one million people to cross a river.

Something to Do

Trust God, even at the flood stage.

  1. Joshua wasn’t concerned about his reputation. He focused on doing what God had called him to do and naturally, everything fell in place. God will take care of our reputations. Let’s not get caught up in trying to be seen. God is in control and He’ll do a much better job than we can. Joshua 6:27 says, “ Now the Lord was with Joshua, and his reputation spread throughout the land.

I noticed a parallel between Moses’ burning bush story and Joshua’s encounter with the commander of the Lord’s ar,y. In both instances, they were commanded to take off their sandals because they were standing on holy ground. Joshua 5:14-15

Another parallel with how God dried up the Jordan just so the Israelites could walk through it, just like the Red Sea. Joshua 3:15-16

Something to Do: God wants me to circumcise my heart before I enter my land of promise. Joshua 5:7
