An Audience With The Almighty

Something Old
The first question in dialogue set the tone for the remainder of the conversation. “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!” (NIV) Job 40:2
When we have our audience with the Almighty, let’s keep a few things in mind:
- We are knowledgeable of many things, but God is knowledgeable of all things. What we know will never trump what God knows. When we take our questions to Him, bear in mind, He sees what we can’t see and makes His decisions based on a picture of eternity not the immediate.
- We can trust God. He works for our good and His glory. It isn’t His nature not to look out for the well-being of His children. We don’t ever have to concern ourselves with justice, because He is just and will defend the injustices against us. Even if it seems He is taking His time, He will not let justice be denied.
- We must believe the best about God before assuming the worse. God is not out to get us. He is a loving God who desires us to live in the image in which we were created. (Genesis 1:27) Sometimes our shaping needs adjusting. With love and sovereignty, God allow events and momentary discipline to touch our lives. God is always working for us, even when our circumstances are yucky.

This is such a fun one to share today with you all.

My one word this year is Joy and today’s reading brought Joy to my heart.
“Do you realize the extent of the earth?” 38:18
These verses draw me to imagine God’s beautiful creation. The sea and sky and heaven and all the ways God works behind the scenes causing day and night and being in control of everything seen and not seen by human eyes. I get a picture of His majesty and splendor. It takes me outside of my life to behold our Creator. Wow!
None of us realize the extent of the earth. It is arrogant and prideful to assume we do.

I am a preschool assistant at a Christian school and just last week our school had the opportunity to borrow a Planetarium from our local university. So last Friday my 3 year old class was invited to visit it along with the rest of the school. We sat inside an air filled dome and we got to look up and see all the stars, planets, sun, moon and everything God created. It really had me in awe of God, to behold Him and His work. The teacher leading us showed us Pleiades and mentioned it was in the Bible! I had no idea it was in the book of Job until I read this morning! How cool! God’s perfect timing as always.
The song “Details” by Sarah Reeves popped into my mind so that’s the next one added to my RTW playlist. God is in the details of everything from the earth to the animals and beyond.

Thank you for this post jlg5309! Sometimes I need to be hit over the head to notice something in the Word and your post did it! I am doing a study on Joy and so thank you for pointing verse 7 out to us and for saying this chapter brought joy to your heart. My goodness, it did the same for me but I needed someone to verbalize it so I would recognize it! (Does that make any sense?) I love this chapter – it exalts the Lord and makes me humble. The Details song was great – a perfect accompaniment to this glorious chapter.

~God makes the case that He is in control of all things. He challenges Job His questions. He calls Job’s words ignorant.
~Job immediately sees that He has been wrong in his approach to God. He humbles himself and shuts his mouth so he can listen to God.
~Praise God that He is in control, not me. Humble myself before God in prayer today, confessing where I have tried to take control or questioned God with a wrong heart attitude.
I had the same application from today’s reading also!
AMEN!!!! God is in control of everything.
Continuing on the theme of my notes from yesterday…reading God’s account of all He created and orchestrates and controls showed me again that I’m not in control. My attempts to control people, situations or outcomes are a waste of my time and energy. God controls it all and the more I surrender to His control, in humility, the easier my life will be and the more joy I will experience.
Awesome reading today. I enjoyed everyone’s commits and agreed wholeheartedly.
Job quickly realized that he had no right to complain to God. Like Job, I am only a grain of sand in the scope of everything. Today’s reading definitely helped me to understand a little more about human pride.
Pride is my worst enemy. Oh, how I am so self-seeking. Today’s reading taught me how to overcome self glorification by focusing more on just who God is and what he has done in His sovereignty, His creativity, His holiness, His grace and mercy, and His love. Only when I realize who God is can I truly understand who I am. I am sure I am not alone in my struggle with pride. It is my responsibility to weaken the influence of my pride and cultivate an attitude of humility by studying and understanding the nature of God. As C.S. Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” Today’s reading brought Nicole C. Mullen song to my mind. “My Redeemer Lives,” check it out.
Peter 5:6: “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.”
I pray that I do not question God’s goodness, power, wisdom or character ever in my life.
Our God is an awesome God!
