I Once Was Blind

“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”
John 9:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

God wants to work in our “blindness.”

What if we considered our:

  • Financial shortfall as an opportunity to generously give
  • Physical disability as an opportunity to encourage others with our words
  • Sickness as an opportunity to share in the fellowship of shared suffering
  • Emotional crisis as an opportunity to praise God

… All so that others can see Jesus’ power in His enabling us to do the impossible, so that God might be glorified.

Something New

“It is ours, not to speculate, but to perform acts of mercy and love, according to the tenor of the gospel. Let us then be less inquisitive and more practical, less for cracking doctrinal nuts, and more for bringing forth the bread of life to the starving multitudes.” (Spurgeon)

Something to Do

Instead of standing in judgement, let’s consider our blindness differently.

  1. Hello Wendy,
So touched by your message today. I have gotten out of the habit of listening to your comments, mostly because I gave my laptop to my daughter-in-law. I try to keep up with my daily reading but have missed hearing you. Thank you for your commitment. I always remind myself of Deuteronomy 29:29 and your phrase “persistence not perfection”. Have a blessed day, you are a blessing to many.

  2. Thank you Wendy! So many times I have wondered why something happens.I love the message “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.” Thank you for reminding me of my need to change my perspective and to take captive my all of my thoughts.

  3. Awesome lesson and a lot to think about from my side ! I thank you Wendy for bringing us the message with such a passion and heartfelt sincerity. It makes it come alive for me as well!! Through my time in RTW I can only say that this is what I learned: Gods Word is alive and active. I keep on learning new things, one thing at the time for God does not want to overwhelm anyone with things we are not ready for. That is the beautiful part: we can read a scripture a year after and find that we now read and feel something whole new from it. Something that we could not see or did not want to see the year before. I love being here and learning for it has brought me closer to God and that is a wonderful place to be!! Have a wonderful blessed day everyone!! Love from Germany!!

  4. Luke 12:35-38 stood out to me. I want to live like Jesus iscoming back today. I don’t want him to return while I’m yelling at my kids, being judgmental or disrespecting my husband. I Want to live out my days like he’s coming any moment…because he is!!

The story of the blind man had so many good points in it. What really struck me was vs. 25 – I do know this: I was blind and now I can see. I can get hung up on not sharing the gospel with others because I don’t know all the scripture or how to explain things. I need to go with what I do know and let God handle the unknowns. God reveal what he wants/needs me to know and I don’t want to get hung up over what I’m lacking.

  5. When I’m in “crisis” (blindness) can people see the power of God in me? I love this question. I’ve always heard that your true character shows in how you handle lost luggage or getting caught in the rain. I don’t want to get in the way of God shining through me!
