  1. Theres a song about a stone thrower. Stones are so heavy to carry all the time. I was trying to find out who sings it to pass along but couldn’t. To carry stones to throw makes our pockets heavy. Good thoughts!

    1. I’m behind in my reading, so I just saw your comment, so appropriate for this lesson.
I believe the song you are referring to is “Rocks” by The Isaacs.

  2. I am needing prayer for myself. I am tired of waiting and being in the waiting room. I feel like my waiting will never end. I feel like I have no more patience left. I have been waiting a long time for God to bring the right man into my life. I have been waiting a long time for my first date. I have never been on a date and would really love to go on one. I need prayers that the right man will ask me out on a date and for me to have more patience. I don’t know how much longer I can wait. God has never brought a man into my life. I just hope this man that God has for me is worth the wait.

  3. My Takeways: The Basic Truths

Something Old: Times have not changed. Today we hear the same thing that John wrote “There was a lot of discussion about him among the crowds. Some said, “He’s a wonderful man,” while others said, “He’s nothing but a fraud, deceiving the people.”” (7:12) Many today think Jesus and Christianity is wonderful while others feel that Jesus and Christianity is nothing but a fraud, deceiving people. What is it about Jesus that He provokes such anger and hatred? “The world hates Me because I accuse it of sin and evil” (John 7:7) I am glad that I know the truth and have been set free and don’t have to live in fear for making my faith publicly. Jesus is the Son of God. There is a heaven and a hell. Jesus is the only way to get to heaven. He alone has the power to forgive sin. Jesus was right in his claims There is a God. He makes the rules and sets the standard. God will judge me based on that standard and He gets to determine how I please Him. I am accountable to Him for my words and deeds. I cannot do whatever I want and get away with it. There is a heaven and a hell. I will spend eternity in one or the other. His perfect moral standard shames me of my sin and leaves me helpless before Him. Thank you Jesus fot revealing these truths to me.

Something New: John 8:12 “… I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have a light that leads to life.” These words remind me that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. Just as God’s pillar of fire (light) lead the Israelites through the wilderness, Jesus is the light of my world. Through his light I can see myself as I really am. Jesus brings God’s presence, protection, and guidance. He removes the darkness of Sin from my life. When I follow Jesus, the True Light, I can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He leads the path ahead of me so I can see how to live. He removes the darkness of sin from my life. When Jesus guides my life I will never need to stumble in darkness.Todays reading focuses on truths about Jesus Christ-the basic principles of my faith. The things which Jesus claims about Himself in todays reading is the reason for my faith. There was little that was “new” in the reading today, and with good reason: there was no need for anything “new” just the basic facts of truth that needs to be reiterated again and again so all can receive the wonderful gift that Christ has offered.

Something To Do: Ask God that through His Spirit He may draw me closer to the “Light of the World.” Proclaim the truth and pray that God may open blind eyes to see the truth and respond to it in faith.

    1. Your comment, “Through his light I can see myself as I really am” made me realize how often I interpret that scripture regarding the Light to be simply for guiding me in decisions. How very important that I first acknowledge that this same Light is giving me important access to my own sinfulness and wrongful thinking…..thus daily cleansing me and enabling me to better walk with Him and better represent Him. It is liberty. It is grace. It is mercy. I am thankful for it, even though it is hard. Thanks for reminding me through your insights.

  4. I really appreciate all who share after your reading. It often clarifies and extends my knowledge. Thank you.
Wendy I loved today’s lesson. The behavior on social media is disturbing. I like your point that there is a difference between confronting someone privately about sin and shaming them publicly. May we all remember Jesus’ example.
Today I was also drawn to the passages about Living Water in John 7:37-39. I am always so grateful that we have the Holy Spirit living within us. I read more about these verses on Bible.org, Lesson 43 “Rivers of Living Water.” Though lengthy, this commentary explained much more about this passage and why Jesus would have been talking about water on the last day of the festival. I found it interesting and thought perhaps others would like to read it.
I’m still amazed and thankful for all the RTW community reading God’s Word together! What a blessing!
