The Things Of God

While Belshazzar was drinking the wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver cups that his predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem.
Daniel 5:2

My Takeaways

Something Old

Daniel is still being called by his Babylonian name.  I wonder how he felt about that.

Something New

How do I handle the things of God?

  • Am I prideful?
  • Am I conceited?
  • Am I judgmental?

Something to Do

Handle the things of God as Holy.

  1. “Live life on our knees.” Amen.
It’s amazing how God speaks when we really listen.
My heart is saddened for the people of Houston in our nation who have recently suffered tremendous loss and devastation. A reminder that I need to “handle the things of God Holy.”
I need to be praying fervently for their recovery, for a new hope for them. For healing.

  2. My Takeaways:The Writing on the Wall

Something Old: A very interesting read today. Wasn’t it interesting how Belshazzar showed such great respect for God’s prophet but had no reguard for God’s word. He had no problem giving Daniel what he had promised 5:29. Belshazzar had power and wealth but his kingdom was corrupt, God’s judgement would end it all in a moment. Daniel didn’t even offer Belshazzar a chance to repent, v. 27 because he knew his heart was already harden and God’s judgement had come. What a lesson for everyone. Today is the time to come to the Lord. I can’t slip into a sinful way of life. I must keep my guard up always, before God removes any opportunities for me to repend.

Something New: So the beginning of todays reading was another difficult read. I figured if even Daniel – the King of all Kings – when it came to interpretating dreams had trouble understanding what was going on in his own vision then I have nothing to trip over. Prophecy is given not so I can understand all that the infinitely wise God is doing. Prophecy is given to remind me that God is in control. Prophecy exposes my lack of wisdom and my need for divine intervention. Prophecy assures me of God’s infinite holiness, power, and goodness, and turns me to Him for the wisdom and grace I need in my weakness. All I need to understand is that God is in control of the future. Even though I don’t understand exactly what is going to happen, or when, I do know that God is in control, and that He is causing all things to work together for His glory and for the good of His people. Now that’s Good News and the reason for my hope.

Something To Do: Live for God and put all my trust in Him. Knowing Him, is all I need to know.
